Caldon Canal water levels

It has been reported

The Churnet Valley Railway has announced that their trains today have been suspended as a result of the weather.

The suspension of train services today in Staffordshire is due to the dangerous rise in the canal water level. There has also been a breach in the banks of the canal south of Consall. This means the railway can’t operate their services safely today.

The heritage railway is monitoring the situation and will be releasing updates shortly.

Yup, it has made the local news. The Trent has also flooded across the fields into the T&M below Aston lock (Stone) so the levels are right up. Aston marina pontoons are under.

Yes, plenty of pictures on FB showing flooded canals in many places.

They've just shut Newark floodgates so we won't be getting back to Kings for a week I guess.

I came North today, the upper Avon at Lubbesthorpe (Junc 19 M1) is all over the fields, the Upper Soar at Littlethorpe(S Leicester) is all over the fields, the Trent and Derwent at Shardlow are all over the fields, the Dove is all over the fields, Uttoxeter fields near JCB are under water, the A500 at Kidsgrove was under water......

It's been a bit wet.

Oh, and the Snowdon light railway was stopped due to snow.
