Any idea what this stuff is?

Any idea what this stuff is? I'd like to replace it.

It's 10mm wide and inside the runner of my window frames. It's where the window glass touches the side of the window frame.

I think it's to act as a buffer to stop the glass actually hitting the metal window frame.

That looks like a piece of carpet-tile.

The correct 'brush' type of stuff can be sourced from good car accessory shops.

Like this. Used to line the window channel for moving panes to stop the glass vibrating. As used in old fashioned cars.

Some years ago I went into a craft shop for some materials I needed for a project.

I mooched around the shop but couldn't find what I wanted so I went up to an 'assistant' and asked :

"can you tell me where I can get felt ?"

 

I was ejected from the shop !!
