Sally called when she got the word
She said, "I suppose you've heard 'bout Alice"
Well, I rushed to the window and I looked outside
But I could hardly believe my eyes
As a big limousine rolled up into Alice's drive
I don't know why she's leaving or where she's gonna go
I guess she's got her reasons but I just don't wanna know
'Cause for twenty-four years I've been living next door to Alice
Alice?
Who the f*** is Alice?
Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance
To tell her how I feel and maybe get a second glance
Now I've got to get used to not living next door to Alice
Alice?
Who the f*** is Alice?
Grew up together, two kids in the park
Carved our initials deep in the bark, me and Alice
Now she walks through the doors with her head held high
Just for a moment I caught her eye
As a big limousine pulled slowly out of Alice's drive
I don't know why she's leaving or where she's gonna go
I guess she's got her reasons but I just don't wanna know
'Cause for twenty-four years I've been living next door to Alice

Now I've got to get used to not living next door to Alice
Alice?
Who the f*** is Alice?
Then Sally called back, and asked how I felt
Then she said, "I know how to help get over Alice"
She said, "Now Alice is gone, but I'm still here"
You know, I've been waiting for twenty-four years
And the big limousine disappeared
I don't know why she's leaving or where she's gonna go
I guess she's got her reasons but I just don't wanna
know

I once paid a DJ to play that at a company Christmas party where we were celebrating launching a new service that involved a software product ALIS.

I once worked for a software house that called a product Argonaut. We weren't sure the management got the right image there, as someone pointed out that the Argonauts went in search of the golden fleece.

I did leave a note on the boat, the owner knocked on earlier to pick up his keys. Interestingly, he didn't receive a phone call from CRT.

Was it the owner though or a chancer that saw the note and has now nicked it.

Just out of interest, did you notice if my boat (Byrons Maggot) was still moored on the winding hole opposite Bollington Wharf as you came through? It's supposed to be in the yard being fixed...

Of course he didnt. What would happen if you rang the DLVC to tell them you had some car keys?

I went past 10 days or so ago, didn't notice it, I'm guessing you probably left it there after I passed through.

Really? I wouldn't have thought it would have been too much trouble for CRT to provide that bit of customer service. After all, even a small boat will pay many multiples of the cost of car tax and, being a smaller organisation than DVLC, might be expected to take a more humanistic approach to their customers.
