Ha yes. Im used to regular toilets. I hate boat toilets they are not ideal IMO. As a plumber im picky about my shitting situation. A cassette toilet dosent seem to bad if i was solo. But family of 6? Im gonna need a ton of power and poop capacity.

Did you see this I think its about £9,000

Looking at the OP's other posts is anyone taking this guy seriously or just using his Post to rack up their post count and kill time? after all he's in "Real estate living in Hawaii" so obviously not much happening over there for him to want to be on the canals over here.

Now this is the sort of throw away comment that damages your credibility. Which Sterling engine, commercially available for a sensible price, would you recommend please? I don't think there is one.

1kw for 6 grand. Its experimental so you have to set up cooling yourself. https://www.microgen-engine.com/

Thats very similar to what i plan to build. Parts for that prob cost less than 500 if DIY.

Then perhaps you need to explain why cassette toilet systems need so much power, because I can assure you that the ones I use need none?

Frankly I suggest that you save up some/lots of money, buy a plane ticket, come to the UK and hire a boat for a month and experience exactly what the canals and canal boats are, why they are like that, and then start to reconsider some of the fanciful ideas that you have suggested. Perhaps then more people will take you seriously.

I need lots of power for a powered anarobic digestor in my pump out. Cassette tapes was the alternative but with 6 people im not sure its practical.

grass is always greener on the other side. when i take my boat out its 6 to 12 foot swell about 1/2 mile offshore. winds blow 20 knots everyday. kids get beat up. no one can take it for more than a few hours. Im also retired. When i said realestate i meant slumlord so i dont really have much to do. Id be there tomm if it wasent for my 4 kids so planning becomes very very important. Leaning towards next may to aug. Im only 34 i have plenty of time to get there.

It sounds like where I go boating. Wanna swap (except for the 4 kids)?

Also don't underestimate the difficulty in working with 8ft x 4ft boards or anything on a typical narrowboat, especially if you are living no it and storing materials on it at the same time. You can't just tie up to the towpath indefinitely so unless you have a mooring you will have to move on at most every two weeks and often less.

Cheap boats are cheap for a reason and all to often it is because they are a very short time away from becoming multi-point porous or are of composite construction and leay rain water in like sieves. Be very wary.

Yes this is a great fear of mine. I can weld patches, bring everything to bare metal and paint but i dont wanna replate. I would have been better off with a diff hull in that case. Agreed on budget. On time scale i may hire some of my guys to come over with me. Im trying to create a boat syndicate with all my hawaii friends lol. So far my dad says im an idiot and narrow boats are disgusting sewer barges. lol. I guess not everyone has the same dreams.

He ain't wrong. Given the choice between a yacht/catamaran in Hawaii, or a sewer tube in the UK, I know which I would prefer. Wanna do a boat swap.....I have a choice of 3!

Hmmmm long on waffle, short on technical detail.

I remain to be convinced.

Hahahah its not sunpower.com who previous to about a week ago was the only supplier i knew. I agree the claims are a stretch esp when ARPA-E govt project is still in a multimillion dollar grant to build theirs. This could literally be a rip off.  Its deff not a sunpower design. Sun power makes the freepiston sterling engines for NASA and DOD subs. I just emailed them for a quote yesterday

Sure if you like. I have a camper truck rental and boat. I dont think you can live on the boat in harbor. Boats on trailer so if you want a slip u gotta pay for a temp slip. 20 foot skip jack with 2 evinrude 90s. does 25 knots. Come whenever you like cause i have no idea when im gonna come. This really applys to anyone on the forum.

Its a trailerable powerboat designed for fishing and pleasure. If you get much bigger I would need a specialized truck or a slip in harbor which is more rare than bars of gold laying on the road.

Then rent it out for the rest of the time on Airbnb like you mentioned on the other Thread.

hahaha cute. thats a bit harder than i suspected. But still an option if i go UK crazy. I found a freehold canalside marina for sale so its possible. Would have to buy brand new boats built to commercial spec or used commercial boats. I dunno, thats like stage 2 or 3 down the road. I assumed there was a thriving 3rd party airbnb boat management market. It appears to not be the case. Marinas seem to keep to themselves either letting their own boats or none at all. Ive heard investment hireboat opportunities exist but i havent seen any.

Its more pleasurable if its bigger (so I am told).....well until it comes to touching up the bottom.

I guess you haven't seen her in her 'evening wear'

(she pretends to be 'male' sometimes on the forum to prevent unwanted attention - but I've met her and know the truth, she was wearing her rubber-suit at the time and doing a bit of canoodling !!!)
