Calling it a scrabbler is just a bit of fun, like calling poppadoms pompadoms, murals Murials, and scumbling scrumbling.

My eldest, when he was my youngest at about 3, came out with the word "Windscreepers" referring to windscreen wipers. We've used it ever since! :)

But, but.... surely a scarifier is a device for getting the moss out of lawns?

If I used one of them I would just have soil. Its surprising how long you can leave it between mowing with a lawn like mine

Having had a goggle, it seems there are big versions e.g.

https://www.landpride.com/products/55/sf25-series-scarifiers

And then there are concrete scarifiers

I think this might be a case of terminology drift. Laymen using the term scarifier interchangeably with scabbler when they mean the needle hammer device for preparing corroded steel surfaces.

Quite possibly, but many hire shops refer to scabblers as scarifiers whether that’s correct or not.

There again, a needle gun isn’t a scabbler either... it’s a needle gun.

And how many people still tell you it was sand blasted?
