Original message:

Please be advised that the towpath and lock are closed at Lock 1 on the Dee Branch of the Shropshire Union canal due to a large hole appearing overnight in the towpath adjacent to the lock.

Our teams and engineers will be onsite today to investigate large hole which has resulted in the damage to the towpath.

Navigation will not be possible at this moment. We politely request customers to approach the area with caution and to listen to any advice that may be given onsite.

An update will be provided tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon following an inspection from our engineers

Vandals again, now they are fly tipping holes overnight, where will it end?

Holy M'holey!

They are delivered in the emergency water hoppers CRT use, when they are empty of course. Someone tipped it out onto the towpath by mistake.

You can't put a hole in a water hopper, it would let the water out. Could you plug it with a hole though?  Too much sun......................................

.  But of course you can plug one hole with another hole, providing you make sure it has a tight fit.

That is accepted but it relies on the structure of the hole. Is it a square hole or a round hole? A black hole of a white hole, Does it matter or antimatter?

When we are on a narrow canal the maximum dimension of a portable hole is of course 7',

Are there wide beam holes available?

shape is often poorly defined because holes constantly evolve even while they are not revolving.

a rapidly revolving hole is called a black hole, because of their momentum they tend to be round.

an unlit hole is called a dark hole, but if it is dark you probably can't see its shape, so in the interests of extreme caution you should always treat one as a potentially black hole and avoid at all costs (unless it is less than half a crown).

the only other difference is the rate of revolution.

at night, after a few pints, dark holes revolve quite slowly but are still best avoided.

PS: if you find a truly rectangular hole it is called a doorway.

Not on the hole, no.
