Brass into plastic - will it go?

Silly question maybe but can I use a brass fitting in a polypropylene water tank? I need to fit a 3/4in/ 19mm hosetail fitting and pretty much all the plastic ones are 20mm.

Brass and plastic are like like a beautiful marriage, they are fully compatible 

 

added - I doubt a rubber hose will notice the difference between a 19mm and 20mm hosetail

Yes you can, but make sure the brass fitting is properly aligned with the female thread on the tank when screwing it in. It would be very easy to damage the plastic thread if you get it cross-threaded.

I assumed it was a plain hole, hence my comment about the hole, but it may be a 19mm threaded boss, in which case 20mm is too big.

I assumed that 19/20mm referred to the hose tail size. I would expect the theaded end of the fitting and the tank boss (if any) to have a BSP thread.

A 20mm plastic hose tail, for example, will be perfectly fine for a 3/4" / 19mm ID hose. Just put the hose in some near boiling water for ten seconds before pushing it on.
