Hi bizzard, ok looks like we have around a 6-7"pulley.   How easy is it to change the pulley?   The shaft that the pulley sits on goes through the back of the engine behind the boxes steps.   Is this simply pulled out of the engine and another pulley put on or do we need to be moving the engine forward to put a new pulley over the end?   Sorry we are not experienced mechanics so the terminology may not be 100%.  I assume then we need to increase the belt size to the alternator?

While waiting for Bizzard's reply have a good check around the pulley area. Some Listers seem to have a cross member that would preclude the fitting of a larger pulley unless cutting and welding is undertaken. Make sure nothing else like engine beds etc. are in way.

As Tony Brooks says check around the pulley area to make sure there is enough room to fit and swing a large diameter pulley without fouling anything. Obviousely the bigger diameter the better, 12'' if possible.  Do you have overhead hand starting gear on the engine with a chain from the overhead shaft to the freewheel sprocket on the camshaft because the alternator drive pulley is sandwiched in behind it. If it hasn't the job is much simpler.  The existing small pulley should be held still by a couple of grub screws, Slacken those  offand the pulley should withdraw forward over the keywayed camshaft end and off.  Clean and lightly oil the camshaft stub beforehand as they are usually mucky and possibly a little rusty, this will make withdrawal of the pulley easier.  Large diameter Taper-Lock pulley's are available. The Camshaft diameter is 1.1/2''. Richard ''RLWP'' of Primrose Engineering of this forum can probably help with a large diameter pulley, PM him.  There are other sources but I need to check them out.

If the cross bearer is in the way of fitting the larger pulley it can be set further out on the shaft to dodge it, the keywayed camshaft stub is quite long, starting handles fitted it on dumper trucks and the like.The alternator will then of course have to be remounted further out using spacers bracketry ect so that the pulley's align up, Yes a larger drive belt will be needed.
