Sam, your thread appeared twice, so I have removed the other one.

Think you removed the original Mike! Its gone now, only the duplicate left.

In case Athy can't find the link, available here,

The two appeared to be exactly the same, so I just removed the first one I came to.

Very confusing ad.  Price given as £13.25 (£4.42 / unit)   Which is it?

Its ebay's daft unit pricing, because he has 3 for sale, its £13.25 each.

I have seen this stupidity on loads of listings, Pobody's Nerfect.

See its sorted now.

I still get 'orribly confused with some of ebay's pages. Some time it won't let me delete things from my watch list, tells me to try later!

That’s because eBay knows you still need one (checked your Amazon cookies), and sooner or later they will manipulate you into buying....

Or he said it was 3 ft long so computer has given you a price per foot to see if it’s a better deal than a 4ft one.?

I doubt it would matter much if it was mahogany or any other hard wood. Soft wood tends to get chewed up.

I doubted if any of the commercially available ones were oak (mine is, and it's very heavy), but I see the earlier link says:

Hand spike, for lock and paddle use.

If you are cruising the Calder and Hebble Canal or the Driffield Navigation in Yorkshire you will need one of these.

The paddles do not have the regular windlass gear, rather a lever box into which you put a strong wooden handspike to act as a lever.

These have been made from repurposed oak hardwood and gaily painted so they don't get left behind.

Fitted with a hole for hanging up in your boat.

They also make a very handy self protection weapon that you can legally have on the boat.

I wood have thought the kinds of wood used for tool handles would be more likely e.g. Ash or Hickory.

It will be interesting to see Tree Monkey's ideas.

Yea. I thought Ash too. None of this Hickory stuff from the Colonies!?

Is oak the usual wood for these?   Tree Monkey, help.

I don't know tbh, would be interested my self

Ash is normally used for boat shafts, so I would imagine Ash would be used for the same reasons.

Get your bits of Ash soon
