Remember Canal Renaissance

There are those who probably may recall those times, now over twenty years ago, when British Waterways celebrated the canal expansion program of the 1790's

SWIFT was painted up with a  new logo and one day was to be seen in Cambrian Basin beside the Flapper & Firkin. It was a time when, it seems, working boat owners tried to set a record for the number of working boats that could fit into that narrow space. (It is not possible now because of the jetties). It was a time when people dressed up to remember past motor boat working days. Then there was that spiral staircase at the Flapper (also now gone).

And British Waterways advertised that they cared for the country's canals.
