Trevor Pavitt, Living the Dream

I remember a lovely travelogue from 2007, Living the Dream by Trevor Pavitt. 

He had the boat Lady Elgar, sold it c.2011 I think. 

I wondered what happened to him - is he still around? And where is Lady Elgar?

I remember the book, they "retired" to a cottage somewhere in Shropshire, IIRC, and I would guess they must be in their eighties now.

 

What is interesting about their account of canal life some twenty years ago is that the same things that upset/annoy boaters these days were very much around back then.   Boats running engines, overstayers, feral kids, poor maintenance, water levels, incompetent crews, it's all there.  I sometimes think nothing changes except our own perspective.

I just found an old email of his in my archived mail and emailed him.

I was delighted to get a reply from him almost immediately. 

Sadly he lost his wife 18 months ago, but is himself still around, I'm glad to say.

He is a great guy, we bumped into him a couple of times, one of the old school posters on uk.rec and canals list
