Flavel Vanessa - orange flame from gas hob?

Hiya,

I've got a Flavel Vanessa stove on my boat and I remember, at the last safety test, the examiner saying the flame from the right hob looked a bit orange (but he passed it anyway).

It's now very orange and left my saucepan covered in soot, so I no longer use it.

After searching the web, it sounds like not enough oxygen is reaching the flame. So I've taken the burner off, given it a good tapping and a small amount of rusty stuff came out. When I put it back on, it hadn't really made a difference. These two photos show how it compares to the left hand flame:

To help determine the root of the problem, I then swapped the burners around and this is what the flames then looked like:

After (2)

So the suspect burner (now on the left) is still giving a bit of an orange flame, but no where as bad as when it was on the right. And the other burner still looks fine, so does anyone have any ideas what the actual issue could be here?

Thanks in advance,

James

PS - For completeness / in case it helps, here are photos of the grill and oven flames:

It won’t be the burner, it’ll be the jet. When you remove the burner you’ll see the jet below it. Try giving it a poke with something not too hard.

All sorted now. I cleaned the jet with a bit of wire but it didn't make any difference. I then used the wire to clean the burner (getting in down and all around where the flame comes out) and it was much better. I then got my pliers to slide the clip thing back a bit to let more air in and now I have a nice blue flame like the other side.

Has reminded me to get some new batteries for the carbon monoxide alarm, too!

Thank for, both, for your help.

Cheers,

James
