Boat Transport Barrow on Soar to Huddersfield

Featured Posts

Just bought a little boat, a Norman 20ft.

Due to domestic circumstances I am unable to sail it home for three weeks. The vendor wants it off the mooring ASAP.

Has anyone any suggestions as to who I could contact to get it transported?

There is no trailer with the boat, and the nearest place to slip it out is Pillings Lock marina.

Thanks, in advance.

You may also wish to get a quote from a professional boat mover for moving it by water, my guess is that would work out cheaper. If you can get someone who's happy to take it on the tidal Trent of course! Don't ask me how I know this!

Could you not moor it at Barrow Boating for a couple of weeks until you can get down to take it away.

That is an option. Also Pillings lock marina is quite close.

Ask around local, as all you need is a small flat bed with Hi-ab, not too difficult with a boat that size.

Not sure about a Hi Ab.Can they reverse down a slipway and lift the boat from the back of the truck?

It wouldn't be possible to unload from the side at my mooring.

Just received a quote of £275 not including slipping charges.

From A Lang,doesn't sound unreasonable.

It sounds very reasonable.

You'd pay up to £50 an hour for a mechanic and maybe £100 per day for a 'labourer', add in a mileage charge (he also has to get there, and back home again).

I'd say its very cheap.

If you paid someone £50 per day to take it by water you'd probably end up paying more.
