How to fit and connect water filling fitting

Hi we have just had a new narrow boat delivered and the first thing I noticed was the water tank isn't connected to the outside world...

The tube that is welded to the tank is 35mm inside diameter, and 38mm outside. How should this be connected to a fitting which will allow the tank to be filled?

Any ideas please

Hi, welcome to the forum.  The first thing you should do is to contact the boat builder and get them to sort it.  There should be a brass deck fitting that connects to the tank via flexible hose. A photo of your set up would help.

Is this a pipe that comes from the top of the tank?  Maybe in the gas locker?

If so it will have a screw on cap to keep crap out.  To fill, shove the end of your hose pipe down the pipe and turn on the shore side tap.

You did not say if this is shell / sailaway or a fitted out boat, if the former check there is a tap on the tank outlet before you start filling.

By the way it is probably a fine old British spec pipe.

Something from this range should be ok, https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/s/samco-silicone-hoses-kits. plenty of other suppliers out there.

I used that type of silicone hose plus the special clips for it. Very good stuff, got mine off Ebay. Loads of different sizes and even reducing couplings. Very good stuff.

There will likely be a vent too which may need connecting...
