Another Wigan Question

We want to get our 12 year old Boatman stove overhauled and have Eddie wants us to moor somewhere around Wigan so he doesnt have to travel too far and where he can get his van close to the boat. Dover Lock would be ideal but we are planning of heading up the 21.

From my memory there is a road by the side of Wigan B & Q but it forms part of the access to the DW Stadium. Is it gated?

Or, once up the 21, is the somewhere suitable.

No, but it's regarded as a bit dodgy round the stadium depending on what's on and how drunk the fans are.

If you moor at the dry dock visitor moorings there is a free car park behind Trencherfield Mill that is 100 yards away from the boat, but it's a pest to get into Wigan by car/van - too many one way bits!

The moorings at Wigan Top Lock are fine, and would be quite handy for Eddie via the M61.

Two years ago we used that point to meetup with an electrician we needed to see asap. It is gated right by the canal, about 200 m after the B&Q. It is also quite a good spoit to moor overnight, or so we found on at least two occasions. Short walk to Asda for provisions as well.
