Could be a hoax - hope so.

When we came up from Chester a couple of weeks ago there were police divers in the water at Christleton.  We obeyed the sign to stop and were waved through.  It turned out that apparently "someone had reported seeing some bones in the water, turned out to be a couple of days previously".  The police had only just pulled out a body by Taylor's Boatyard a day or two before, so I guess they had to be seen to respond.  They had a quick look round, then continued as a training exercise.

We came down Walsall top lock on the BCN challenge a few years ago to find firemen everywhere rescuing a trapped body in the next lock. They were having a training exercise and had asked for police protection for the fire engine as dubious sorts were gathering!!!

They then stood by and watched me run around like an idiot working two locks without offering a hand.

Well if you were using both hands without having a pint in one,  they may have obliged....allegedly...?

In 1973, working on a pipeline crossing the Humber near Immingham.  We had a 3 sided sheet-piled cofferdam to do the transition from water to land.  One day a labourer came into the office having seen a body in the cofferdam.  It was reckoned to be 3 weeks old, having sunk and then recently refloated; looked like an inflated raincoat bobbing about in the water.  We left it to the authorities to recover and remove.
