Netherton’s an half hour tunnel and not that interesting.

Wear a head torch in a tunnel. You’ll find all sorts of ancient and modern features and markings.

In Netherton you can find the locations of five pairs of horse passing places, something like 13 air shafts of which at least a third are now infilled, and the imperial chainage markers. You can also read all the survey marks for repair works that show where the invert has been replaced and where it has been strutted plus all the various re-pointing, anchoring and re-lining works that go on. You’ll get a feel for what it takes to keep such artefacts available for our use. It isn’t trivial.

Many thanks to all who helped with the plan.

We stopped at Lapworth and tried the Boot inn. Nice beer.

We then did the Blue bell cider house. Next day was a longer day into the centre of Brum. Met up with the Biscuits and saw Tom and Bex a fews time going up and down. Got roped into the BCN challenge (and lost the duck - the Biscuits knicked it and hence managed to win the challenge) and on the Saturday went out on the new mainline and then left down the Netherton Tunnel to Withymoor Island Boat club. We reckoned that would be sufficient to win the wooden spoon in the challenge (by not returning to the centre) but unfortunately is was too much and Laurie won it. We had two nights at Withymoor - really nice place and only a stones throw from Ma Pardoes. The family turned up on Sunday so we had a 2 hour cruise up and down.

On Monday we set off and parked in Merry Hill for the night, then did a longer day down the Delph locks and then the 16. Overnighted above the Stourbridge locks and are now near the Navigation at Greensforge.

Priority now is to find a place to park on Saturday night where I can get a good satellite signal (to the SE) for the footy match.

Downside is we have lit the fire again! It's nearly June! Prolly only for one night though.

Thanks again all.
