Nom idea on the engine but if I may suggest you get rid of that 'Black & Decker' twin (orange cable) - having it running over the water pump and fan belt is not really 'good practice'.

Looks like a Mitsubishi K series engine, possibly a K3c,I think Vetus use an M prefix for there model numbers.????   Vetus engines are usually painted yellow,so this may be a Thorneycroft,as mine is painted a similar colour.

Much appreciated Ian, and for those concerned, the cable has been removed as shown in the other images.

No idea Richard, that image was one of the previous owners.

He pointed out that there was a problem with the starter motor, failing to mention there is no starter motor.

So trying to identify the engine to replace the starter motor..

The Mitsubishi K4 engine on our first shareboat (built in 1992) had an engine that exact colour. It was marinised by Boatserve who went out of business a year or two later.

Thornycroft seems to be still going.

Pleased to hear this. They used to be local to me at Preston, the guy who owned the outfit (Tony?) was a great guy. I gradually morphed my Vetus into a Thornycroft with his help but last i heard he had retired.
