Do you mean the camshaft, the stub that sticks out where the alternator gets its drive from.

You can get chain grease for the chain, or oil it. A drop of oil on the handle shaft upstand bearings. You could rub some oil over the shaft if you you want, some folk paint it. Roxylass
I shall do that also if you enlarge the picture you will notice a grease nipple between the chain and the thinner end of the camshaft as always your good advice is most welcome
Billy Boy
Don't they have a grease nipple on the sprocket. I threw my in the skip when I put 12" pulley on.
bizzard
Yes, grease nipple, ordinary LM grease, same as car wheel bearings and such. Only don't over do it, it might splatter onto the drive belt. Edited March 27, 2019 by bizzard
Billy Boy
That was one or two years ago when cars had grease nipples on wheel bearings
Boater Sam
A lot more than one or two, more like 40 or 50 years at least. It was a bugger getting the greaser on when the wheels were going round. Fascinating topic, what does that nipple lubricate? Is it just the freewheel on the sprocket?
