Basically - no access to or from the Trent to the Yorkshire waterways (or Vice-versa)

Duration of closure "unknown" & until further notice as it is the main-structure that has failed.

Folks will just have to use Goole or Selby instead.

i find it odd that they state the “main structure” has failed, yet its down and still allowing vehicle passage. surely the main structure is what allows vehicles to pass over, perhaps they mean main mechanism? Why do they never fail in an open position which would ensure it got fixed PDQ?

It is one of the bars that link the bridge deck to the counter balances that is at risk of failure and being replaced.

"The bridge has been safely lowered and the deck is now lying flat across the canal on the abutments."

Sounds like it did fail open to me.  The quick fix was to lower it back down so it can't fall down.

Which I wouldn't mind so much if they gave proper notice so as those of us with Yorkshire birthrights can get the right side before the shutters come down! ;)
