Newark Bridge in the 40s

This photo of the River Trent at Newark seems to show fendering to lead boats heading downstream through one of the arches. But also would appear not to be the centre arch but the one to the right. Or is it a perspective thing?

Having a closer look, could be some engineering work going on at that side of the bridge, looks like a crane on the bridge.

From the Newark fb page it is considered the photo was taken when the channel in the centre arch was deepened to cater for larger boats when the new lock was constructed.

I'm pleased they catered for "larger" boats, it still looks quite small when lining up a larger boat to pass through it, ?.
