Adamwalker64
Hi was wondering has anyone ever installed a standard lpg combi boiler on a boat
Richard10002
I was looking at the one in my sisters static caravan last year. Quite big, but cant see any reason why it wouldn't work. Might depend on how much LPG it uses, compared to storage capacity?
Boater Sam
They are far too big an output unless you have a huge fat boat. You may have great problems fitting the flue assembly in a steel hull, the tumblehome will allow rain water in, and it will stick out a long way. Not a practical idea, the gas consumption will be massive, expensive on bottled gas, why do you think it is a good idea?
Adamwalker64
Was just exploring all the possibilities got a morco on the boat at the min flow rate rubbish take your point about gas usage that was my concern I know you can alter the gas rating quite low on domestic boilers probably gonna go down the diesel heater with cylinder and run the cold water through a accumulator to bump up the pressure unless you’ve got any other ideas thanks for your feedback Sam looking forward to hearing what you think about alternatives Adam
Ex Brummie
Despite the other disadvantages already mentioned, a combi requires an uprated cold water flow and pressure than you can easily get on a boat. There are other multipoint heaters you can use that give better output than the morco, and there are good reasons for separating your heating and hot water systems. Smooth out the flow, yes

Boater Sam
Fine, but what pressure rating is the rest of the system such as calorifier, and pressure release valve? 30psi, 2 bar gives a good shower for most folk, is the shower head the problem or the mixing valve? Adamwalker64
Fair enough so what’s the best type of system to go with starting from scratch so. Open minded not got any experience of plumbing a boat but I have been a domestic heating engineer for 20 yrs any suggestions would be greatfuly recived
Richard10002
Instant Gas water heater for hot water. Possibly plus a calorifier so you get it free when the engine runs for a while. Smokeless fuel burning stove for heat, possibly with a back boiler feeding rads through the boat.

ditchcrawler
I cant see it getting much simpler than a pump mounted on top od an accumulator. However you are paying a lot for convenience on that set up, the pump is about £60 so that is £100 for a tank, gauge and piece of plastic pipe. mark99
We have a small domestic diesel boiler in our engine room. It supplies heat for rads and calorifier hot water. The pump is quite power hungry.
