key point - what do I clad the underside of the gunwhale with? So, I’ve been re-doing my boat. Initially took out everything from the bedroom at the back (furthest end from the fire) which included a large wardrobe. Had to replace the insulation and cladding where it had been. Replaced the polystyrene like for like but foamed it in to give better seal. I’ve also added some polystyrene to the gap in the gunwhale, and then put mdf up. sadly, within weeks, the mdf is getting soggy and mouldy. So I guess condensation is forming on the walls, running down and dripping in the gunwhales. The old material put there seemed to be a veneered mdf and was stained heavily, but never dripped. My flooring is now dark where the drips have accumulated and pooled. Other than a dehumidifier, I’m not sure how to stop the condensation being this bad? This bit of the boat isn’t well heated. and what better material to fix to the underside of the gunwhale is? thanks a bunch!

HI All, We are thinking of replacing our old and slightly shabby cratch cover. This one was hand made by the person who previously owned the boat. It is made from a big piece of most likely fairly cheap vinyl/plastic. We were thinking of going for the same stuff to keep down costs, or maybe someone knows of a reasonably priced alternative? If we take the old one off, measure the maximum area, but a piece, then overlay one on the other and cut it to size (folding over and gluing to strengthen hems/seams), then it shouldn't be that difficult, no? Anyone had experience doing this, any advice etc?? And if anyone knows of a decent supplier that would be much appreciated. Cheers!!

Whilst researching original documents relating to the Staffs and Worcs Canal in Stafford Record Office, I came across an "Abstract of Cutting of Canal above Dunsley Rocks Page 27". I don't think I'm allowed to post the image but it is divided into four sections: First Depth, Second Depth, Third Depth and Fourth Depth. The left hand column appears to be headed "Stations" (difficult to decipher) under which the numbers 1-23 appear giving 23 lines across the document. Each 'Depth' has a number of columns: First Depth has 'Soil', 'Gravel', 'Rock at 1d' and 'Rock at 3d'; Second Depth has 'Soil', 'Gravel', 'Sand (?) Rock', 'Rock at 1d', 'Rock at 2d', 'Rock at 3d', 'Gravel Rock at 3d' and 'Rock at 4d'; Third Depth has 'Soil', 'Marl', 'Sand' Rock', 'Soft Rock at 1d', 'Gravel Rock' at 3d, 'Gravel Rock at 4d' and 'Rock at 6d'; Fourth Depth has 'Soil', 'Marl', 'Sand Rock', 'Soft Rock at 2' (no 'd') and 'Soft Rocks at 2d'. Various figures are entered into the boxes although most of them are blank. The First Depth has figures in all 23 lines under 'Soil'; the same is true for the Second Depth apart from line 18. Other figures are dotted around the boxes. Along the bottom each column is totalled eg First Depth Soil is 7479.8. Can anyone help me to decipher what this is all about? What are the Depths? What are the Stations? What units are assumed for the various materials? Why do the Depths have different headings/materials? Why are there so many blank boxes? (For example, there is only one entry under Gravel in the First Depth (Line 22: 109.7))
