Hi all! I'm pretty new to the cut ( last september ) and sadly looks like I will be made redundant from my job of 7 years in the near future :/ I come and have lived in a fairly small village on the K & A. As work is so scarce in my area I have decided to move to Bristol on my boat and as my redundacy pay will only be a small amount (£2000- £2500) will not be able to afford mooring fee's in the near future in all likely hood. As far as work goes I'll do whatever pays the bills but transport is a issus as i do not drive (aside from the barge ) Now to my questions (I have searched as much as I can but getting online can be differcult and thus far have not been able to find much in the way of info and was hoping someone could help me who lived near by or has been in the same sort situation ) 1) Can you moor in bristol its self with out paying fee's if you're willing to move every two weeks inside bristol it's self( I'm a genuine C C at the moment and walk/cycle or bus into my current job) 2) I understand that commuting into Bristol from along the canal is farly easy (from what I've read) but was wondering what the rough cost of buses and trains tend to be and how easy it is to get these ( I figure a hour or 2 traveling a day is ok if the they run early enough ( get you into the city before 8 or 9am)) I'm sorry if these sound like stupid questions but at a bit of a loss at the moment and could do with any and all help. I know the first question is a bit of a no brainer and assume you can't but best to ask right? Thank you and may I say great web site and community, has helped me out with a lot of things these last few months should of joined rather than lurked long ago!

A boat at Kintbury east of Kintbury lock, Kennet and Avon Canal has had diesel stolen out of its tank. Not sure how many litres taken but the tank was virtually emptied. CRT have also issued a stoppage notice for the pound between locks 68 and 69 due to a diesel spill until they clear it up, there are booms on the water. This may or may not be related to the theft incident.

Just a note about the Kennet and Avon canal, having just been up to Bristol and back,it's great lots of easy moorings in my two monthly experience. Other experiences could differ but I found everywhere fab fab fab. So stayed at cunning man before I went back on Thames, but I saw pub advertised in Reading as free moorings and eleccy and water,so decided to spend a couple of nights here before going back on river Thames. Obviously if you drink and eat in their premises.Manager is a very friendly guy Went in there last night and three boats hired boats from local hirer arrived. About thirty young people got off the boats, and went to the pub their the bel and dragon, at first only a few, couple on guitars, then a few girls singing to the music. Then more and more came in, saxophone trumpet then a brass section, more and more instruments, All youngsters under thirty , fantastic night. Was like being in a concert,it won't always be like that but if in the area try to moor in bel and dragon moorings. I am travelling around the system and some places are remarkable. I found the whole canal fantastic, with the contrasts of countryside and towns and city. Managed to get moorings everyday by a pub only tied to a tree on two occasions, both on the river by pubs.just saying.

I'm planning our holiday on the waterways and struggling to decide between a ten day trip on the Kennett and Avon there and back again, or the South Pennine Ring. We've done a good part of the Oxford Canal, which was wholly beautiful, even didn't mind Banbury. Also did the Four Counties, which was epic and breathtaking in a completely different way, although if I was going to split hairs ever so slightly marred at the beginning when going through the desolation of Eutraria at Stoke. (Note to readers - starve, rather than stopping off at Lindley Farm carvery). My heart is with the SPR but a friend wants the K&A, but we both can be swayed. I like northerners and would like to stumble across Sean Bean and marry him, and alternatively the idea of all those white old ladies in Bath puts me off the K&A a little. I'd heard there are alot of towns on the SPR however, and am wary of a lot of it being like Eutraria. Any thoughts?
