  1. Liveaboard on a 60ft widebeam for a year and looking for some advice re heating. Managed to scrape through last winter and hoping to get my heating sorted out for the upcoming! Our boat (2007) came with a Webasto thermtop-c water diesel heater, with 4 radiators inside the boat. in spring this year the heater stopped working (Would start up and then stop within about 15 seconds). Anyone experienced with these, is it worth getting the Webasto serviced and going again for heating and water in the winter, or should we look to replace it with a new diesel heater, e.g. the Planar models other threads have discussed? Any advice would be much appreciated. We don't have a stove currently, would that be a better use of money for a heating system? Thanks
  2. Having an impossible time trying to get webasto new installed system to work. Got new pump and refurbished webasto, didn’t want to heat up in bucket test, sent it back the seller two times he ran it and it worked. Our diagnostics showed error flame interruption during combustion. Though ok maybe it’s voltage and bought a new loom. Finally got it working in bucket installed it and ran it once. It heated up but not loads water was hot in tap not boiling . Have the heat exchanger system with one fan and one towel radiator. Had a coolant leak overnight, topped up system and ran it for the second time. Isn’t heating up again! I’m attaching the diagnostics result here. Says again Flame interruption during combustion operation and after start-up has been repeated combustion still fails to accur. there’s in no air in the system, have a second pump hooked up also, ran it with engine on, no leaks in fuel and pump is working. Primed the webasto through the program. really at a loss at this point, maybe someone can look with experience of reading the diagnostics and spot the issues?
  3. Hello, Does anybody know if it's possible to adjust the software settings of a Webasto? I have just finished installing a new Webasto Thermo Top Evo 4 (4kw) in my boat connected to 3 radiators and calorifier. It is a direct replacement for an old noisy Eberspacher d5w (5kw). It became apparent that the Eber was too big for the install, constantly cycling on and off. I have fired up the Webasto and it works great and it's so much quieter. However I have now realised that, having bought an automotive version, it is timed to cut off after 1 hour. It also seems that the water output is not as hot as the old Eberspacher. I was told by a dealer that the output difference of a 4 and 5kw heater would be barely noticeable. Just wondering if it is possible to adjust the settings to make it into a "Marine" version, either by myself or by a dealer. I have a computer interface and software on order. Thanks!
  4. Hi there! I’ve just moved onto a boat with a webasto system (well an MV hydro 5-S) for some reason it cuts out after a minute or 2. The heating system runs through all open radiators and hot water. I leave 1 radiator open and it starts to warm up but the hot water won’t turn on! The pump and battery amps are fine. Does anyone have any advice how to fix it? If not, does anyone know a mechanic or engineer who would be able to come and have a look? I’m currently moored in Harefield. Thank you!
  5. When our webasto is on, our step lights, outside stern light, bathroom shelf light all flicker. The main lights and lamps don't. Our boat builder does not seem to know why this happens. Can anyone make any suggestions as to why this may be? The lights do not flicker at any other time.
  6. Hello lovely boaters, I'm most of the way through installing my heating system, I have a 75L calorifier which will be heated by the Webasto Thermo Top C. The Webasto will then go on to heat a load of rads. My question is, does the header tank have to be at the highest point. I fitted it without giving any real thought and now after thinking about it I would imagine it needs to sit higher than the highest radiator. Is that right or can I get away with having it around 30cm lower than the highest point in the system. The header tank is currently in the engine bay, nice and out of sight. I will have to move it inside the utility room if it needs to be higher, no real issue just a pain in my arse, a pain I would rather avoid. Help is much appreciated. Beau
  7. Hello lovely boaters, I've been fitting a Webasto Top C unit on my boat and today was the day it was supposed to all come together and work. As I expected it did not happen. After connecting up to the battery bank the unit would make some noise, as if it was sucking air through, I could feel the air coming out of the exhaust, no fumes. Then these diesel pump would start making a clicking noise, which got faster and faster, the unit speeds up and sounds like it's about to kick in and then it just doesn't. I did this 4/5 times hoping that it just needed a few attempts to get the diesel into the unit. Still no joy. Am I missing something obvious? It's a reconditioned unit and came with all the parts needed, anything missing I bought with Spencers recommendation. I'm hoping that I'm just being a Muppet and that I'm forgetting something simple. Please help :) going to post in a few places to gather the greatest amount of boater knowledge. If no one can help then I will look for a webasto engeneer to come and help out. Thank you all x
  8. Hello all, Does anyone know of a way I can plumb into the Webasto twin port header tank without using flexible pipe? Ideally I would plumb the 22mm push fit straight into the unit. Thanks, Beau
  9. Hi, We have a webasto heater which was working fine until recently. We then had some new radiators fitted. Unfortunately they leaked, which drained the system. Unsurprisingly the heating stopped working. We called in a webasto engineer who replaced the water pump and another part. The diagnostic report doesn't mention the water pump but does mention the heater over-heating at some point. The engineers opinion is that it was the water pump running dry that burnt out and in doing so triggered another system to fail. The people that fitted the radiator are denying it has anything to do with them, and even had the cheek to criticise the webasto engineer and his opinion. The've also been to fix the radiator twice and failed. What happens if one runs the system with no water? I'm assuming this is not a good thing - but how do I go about proving that a drained system caused the webasto to fail?
  10. I put this post on yesterday and had one reply but it as disappeared(?) so I will try again! I am about to install a Webasto in my engine room room which is lined with tongue and groove. Can someone who has a Webasto tell me if the body of the Webasto gets hot when in use. There is no mention in the installation instructions about locating the heater next to combustibles (unlike stoves for example) so am I correct to assume I can mount it direct onto the t&g? or do I need some form of heat barrier?
  11. I've decided to go for a Webasto heater - as I really can't spell the other type It will be for water and central heating. I'm sure someone can kindly point me to a guide with everything I need to know. My main questions are... 1. Do you need to add a 2 way valve as per domestic heating in order to select between hot water and heating? 2. Do you need an expansion vessel - I've seen an install with one. 3. I've seen a lot of different kits around - what do I need with it? Is there separate pump or something? 4. Different controller options - lcd panels etc, I might like to get something that later on I could control remotely via phone app or something. But if it's a hassle I'll skip that for now. 5. Best place to fit it - I want to leave room for a generator (one day please!) in the engine bay. Once again, thanks
  12. Hey there, New to the forum but had a question about my Webasto Thermo Top C (refurbished) I installed it about 2 weeks ago onto my widebeam and it has been working perfectly. The last time I turned it on I noticed a few seconds of white smoke during running though it seemed fine. However I tried to turn it on today and it fails during start up. The heater turns on and the pump starts clicking away, the usual amount of light smoke comes out the exhaust and it slowly powers up as normal going through the c start up, at some point it goes quiet and starts again and a a fair bit of white smoke comes out, the pump stops ticking and after a few seconds the burner shuts off. My batteries are fine as have solar so voltage is fine, I have half a tank of fuel, (though not sure how far the fuel intake pipe extends down into the tank, and had the diesel polished this summer. the header tank is fine so i'm assuming no air pockets, from reading I wonder if its the glow plug? it has hardly been used (by me) but maybe the glow plug was not changed? Any knolwageable thoughts out there greatly appreciated as its starting to get cold these days!
  13. Hi, can anyone recommend a supplier for webasto spares ? my heat exchanger has a pin hole in it and needs replacing. Glad we don't really need it at the moment. cheers Bazza
  14. Hi All, Long story short, I've got a Webasto Thermotop c in place and I'm just about to do the plumbing (pressurised), a couple of questions.......... 1. Is this a pressure relief valve? http://www.screwfix.com/p/prv-with-gauge-15-x-22mm/41943it says "pressure reducing valve" and I was expecting it to have a third outlet for water to come out of if need be, I can't see where the water would escape from on this one 2. Any advice on connecting plastic pipes directly into metal fittings (such as ball valves, or auto air vents) with an olive in? 3. I'm planning to use 22mm ID radiator hose from the Webasto to the 22mm plastic spine about 1.5m away, I've (unreliably) been told this can just be clamped to the plastic pipe with jubilee clips, or is there a better way of connecting the 2? Thanks Steve (i know that was 3 questions, I just got caught up in the moment) :-)
  15. I've had a search of threads but have come up with several answers. I'm wanting to fit the exhaust for the Webasto, I have the appropriate skin fitting but my options for where it goes are either below the rubbing strake (centered 15cm above water line) or above the rubbing strake (centered 30cm above the water line). Looking at various other holes in the side (skin fittings) that I have already, they vary from not a lot upwards - I think depending on what happens with them inside the boat (I read about lesser height rules if it goes in a strong hose, traveling upward). But as this is an exhaust, I thought not too far up the side might be good for avoiding smelling the fumes? Hole saw on standbye
  16. Hi there, I’ve got bit of an issue with my Webasto Heater. It’s a 90 St version (9.1Kw). It’s been working well for years and I never had any issues with it. I always made sure it was working hard, I would only switch it on for 1,5 – 2 hrs max at the time, so I doubt it was ever going to “low flame” setting. Since last week it’s been switching off due to overheating. I vented the system, flushed it, vented again (numerus times) but still the same things happen. I checked the water pump, it seems all good, there’s a good flow and I cannot see anything wrong with it. What basically happens is Webasto runs for 20-25 minutes (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter) and then it seems that the coolant after the unit boils and the unit switches itself off. I think that it generally heats up the entire systems quicker than usual, it is quite of a big system, 6 rads, towel rail and a calorifier – give or take 100 lts of coolant so it was normally taking around 1hr or more for the rads to get proper warm, this now happens after 20 -25 mins. Any help will be appreciated!
  17. Hi, I am hoping someone can help. We have a Webasto thermo pro 90 on our narrowboat. It has a fault. We have completed the re-set and seem to have got round the lockout problem. It now shows fault code 16, exhaust temperature fault. Any ideas or tips on what could be causing this, or how to fix it? Also, when we ave checked everything else, there is a leaky valve leaking the coolant/water from the webasto under the bed. Bit messy and can't seem to tighten it. I feel an engineer call out might be needed, but am asking here first. Thanks in advance, Vic
  18. Hi All, I've got a Webasto Thermotop C, it's been in for over a year and running with no problems, running rads in winter, and water (with a couple of rads) all summer. But typically just before winter it's decided to start playing up and won't start. It's installed to the letter from the marine install guide I was sent through here. When I turn it on it whirs for a bit, then goes quiet, the fuel pump starts ticking then it starts up and the pump speeds up but then goes into shut down mode, sometimes it shuts down before the pump speeds up. While it's doing this it can put out quite a bit of smoke and it smells a bit more like diesel than I remember. The first couple of times it did this it started on the second try, but yesterday I must have tried it about 5-6 times and it wouldn't get started. Any ideas? Thanks Steve
