We going to do the Warwickshire ring (Clockwise) and looking for advice please (A bit more specific than previous threads, I have looked....honest). We're not going into central Birmingham so will be heading up the Grand Union and turning right at Bordesley Junction up the Birmingham and Warwick before joining the B&F. We're planning to stop for lunch at Catherine-de-Barnes, hopefully to meet some friends at The Boat! However I'd quite like to push on a little bit in the afternoon, for an hour or so, to help shorten the next day ideally so we can get well past Star City (although I'm not adverse to stoping there, if space allows). I seem to remember an awful lot of the bank heading up to Boardsley Junction, where you may wish to moor, is solid concrete / paving and is very difficult to moor too. Is my memory right? If there are any reasonable / recommended mooring spots on this stretch your advice would be most welcome. We've plenty of time so don't really wish, or need, to cruise lots of hrs a day. At last, I managed to take the boat out for a trip that passed by an open chandlers, Swallow Cruisers, on Saturday. It was a bit of a battle stopping the boat. The wind was stronger than my prop in astern, so I sailed past the customer mooring on first attempt. As I wanted to wind anyway, I just carried on to the winding hole, made a bit of a hash of it, but eventually managed to face the other way, got back and bought some diesel and the three disk dvd "Circular Canal Tours" by Chris Smith, Videoactive. It was filmed in 2007 and as it's pretty much the only route I've done, I was interested to see how things might have changed on the Warwickshire Ring since I did my first loop last year. One of the most obvious things is Ventnor Marina which looked to be freshly cut and waiting for it's first berth holder to arrive. In the film, Chris Smith pozits that the additional berths at Calcutt and the new marina development will put an extra strain on the locks and water supply in the area. 'Does anyone think these things through?' he wonders... I've been along that stretch three times. First time was a nice autumnal bank holiday, it was fairly busy with about 20 boats moving in both directions. 2nd and third times were fairly quiet, there were perhaps three other boats. On occasion I've sat outside the locks at Calcutt and seen a steady stream of boaters in both directions. Nothing that seemed overwhelming, certainly no queues or tailbacks. Obviously, as a noob, I've only seen a small section of the traffic and wasn't around beforehand, so, had they thought it through or does the area suffer because of it's increased popularity? Rob
