  1. Hi, I'm trying to identify the correct engine oil for a Vetus m4.17. The manual says CC or CD grade 15w - 40 mineral oil. Could anyone confirm if the part synthetic from Halfords would will be ok? If not hopefully the status car care E7 mineral is correct? Cheers https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-15w40-part-synthetic-oil-2---5-litres-285286.html https://shop.statuscarcare.com/product/status-car-care-15w40-e7-super-mineral-engine-oil-e7-5l-5-litre/
  2. Hi. I am having an on-going issue with my Vetus M414 engine losing power and being unable to rev above about 1500rpm. It will idle fine and run at tickover in gear for a couple of hours quite happily, but within 10-15 minutes of running at 4mph cruising speed, around 2400rpm it will start to coughs bit and then lose power. dropping to neutral it will then run very roughly for a few minutes before picking up again. It is behaving as if it has run out of fuel, but my tanks are full (I have checked).. I have found that bleeding the filter whilst still running the engine, both in gear and at idle, will restore the power, but obviosuly this isn't right or indeed safe especially as it always does it in locks and at swing bridges. I initially suspected an air leak into the fuel system, but having replaced a number of suspect pipes and copper washers it still does it. I have also wrapped every possible joint in grease and I am now sure there is no air ingress. So I have turned my thoughts towards either the electric fuel pump, which is only 2 months old, but isn't as quiet as I would have expected it to be, it makes quite a loud clicking noise, or I have also wondered if the pressure release valve between the bottom of the filter and the return line maybe at fault and not retaining the correct pressure within the system and therefore not allowing enough fuel up into the high pressure pump and instead returning much of the fuel straight back to the tank. Any thoughts would be most gratefully appreciated as this is really winding me up now and spoiling many weekend cruises. Generally the engine sounds as sweet as anything, no smoke to speak of and indeed it managed to tow a broken down vessel 12 miles back to our marina, all be it fairly slowly, so I know there is nothing mechanically major wrong. Thanks
  3. Hi all I am isolating on my boat at the min and trying to get a few jobs done. I have a vetus waste water tank with a vetus waste12b gauge. I have looked online and the connections are not the same as the mine. Mine has: Earth S + Can anyone help with this please. There is 2 wires coming out of the float on the tank. Thanks
  4. Hi Finally had new build boat delivered by lorry to temporary home yesterday and had it lowered in (Thanks to P&S marine). An emotional day! Despite not having yet connected to mains nor having connected a gas bottle I have a good size snag list. One issue in particular I want to get sorted sharpish (Effectively this weekend), before I hopefully move her to her new home on the 1st of March (Path to mooring blocked by closure). Given experience with the (Budget) builders timeliness to date, I think I may better off fixing this one myself (Will be giving the supplier tomorrow to convince me otherwise) The issue is that they have wired the Vetus SICO engine control so that it is 'push to go backward' where I am used to 'push to go forward' and want to change it to this. I'm by no stretch a mechanic (Even as a hobbyist, that will change soon though I'm sure!) but the installation guide seems to suggest it wouldn't be to complex a DIY job. It looks like I need to: 1) disconnect cable from gearbox 2) Expose rear side of SICO control 3) disconnect gearbox cable from control 4) Reconnect gearbox cable to 'other side' of control 5) reconnect cable to gearbox I have some questions and I was hoping that you guys could help? Am I overcomplicating it: Do I need to perform step 1 & 5? If I perform step 1 & 5, what do I need to watch out for? - will It be under pressure, do I need to expect things to fly off at speed due to hidden spring loading? etc... What do I need to be aware of? Or am I being a wuss and actually I need to fix myself. Man up and deal with the reversed (To me) controls? PS Full and frank review of experience with builder and output is to come. To be fair though, I need to give both of us a reasonable opportunity to identify/fix faults first. Thanks Andy
  5. Hi, we have a vetus 6kw generator installed on our boat for which we cannot get hold of a key to open the box. It is in an enclosed box as it is a hospital generator and very quiet but we have searched everywhere for a key or tool to open it and not come up with anything. Don't even know what it is called. Plus we have a problem in that the generator is not taking up raw water now and therefore not getting enough coolant and we can't use it. Can't even get at it to see if it is the water pump. All suggestions gratefully received.
  6. Hello! Warning: If you are a seasoned boater who knows their way around an engine, you may find your eyes rolling at my ineptitude. All I can say is I'm trying and want to know more, before you say google it... I did but I'm struggling to make heads or tails of it. Background: diesel, Vetus M3.10 engine, 37ft boat, looks like the engine had it's first 50 running hours 1987. Myself: Had the boat 6 months, never touched an engine before her, currently racking up my call outs with RCR. I've managed to get the RCR mechanic to go through a service with me and he's going to talk me through how to do it myself, go through the whole maintenance schedule! Brilliant. Problem, he said he can supply the oil but he's saying he's got 15w40 that he puts in. The original manual that I've found is stating the following: Engine Oil SAE 10w30, Mil-L-2104 C, CC-CD Not sure what 'Mil-L-2104 C, CC-CD' means but not sure that parts important. Please correct me and inform if it is very much important. It's given a list of examples, which are the following: Shell Rimula CT 10W30 Gulf Veritas SD 10W30 Esso Essolube D 3 10W30 Mobil Delvac 13 10W30 Chevron Delo Super 10W30 Every single one of those oils have been discontinued. I've gone onto Vetus' website and even they don't sell 10W30 for inboard apparently it's for 4 stroke 'outboard' engines, then again they have discontinued the M3.10 engine. Now possibly, it says in the manual 10W30 because other oils weren't really around. Maybe today we have a better oil for this type of engine, something that wasn't available 30-odd years ago. I'm very worried because she's an old engine and I really want to do the BEST for her, whatever it takes. Don't want to buy the cheapest alternative, want the best alternative.... also something I can get my hands on for this weekend 9/5/2020. I know! Perfect time to try and do an oil change but my alternator broke and so it's getting refurbed and the mechanic says he can talk me through a service at the same time he fixes my alternator... As I'm probably 50 running hours over the recommended running time before it needed another service (going off the manuals guide).... Whoops! Any suggestions? What type of oil? where can I get it? Somewhere online? If you can give me a bit of background info on why you suggest the oil, that would be really nice to know! Thanks for your help, advice or any offerings you can make!
  7. My normally reliable thruster wont work anymore. I pretty technical checked batteries 13,4V all fuses are good. Symtom when press on-line quick beeps till it goes back and never goes green or on-line. The engine will not start of course. Solenoid will not click either. Any suggestions.
  8. Hi guys, Thank you in advance to whoever can solve this. I have had a Vetus toilet- no big issues for three years. However, there was a bad smell coming from the 38mm sanitary hoses and 25mm direct from toilet hose. I replaced these with Eurocord Sanitary W.C after being recommended these were high quality and less likely to smell. However after swapping all the hoses we tried to use the toilet and the water simply will not suck away any more. The push and hold button the the vetus control panel whirs and it usually would work but no suction from the bowl. I went to the website where they had these faults listed: Possible cause • The air-relief valve does not shut properly. • The outlet pipe is blocked. • The pump housing is blocked. • The sieve is blocked. Solutions: Solution • Clean the air-relief valve, or replace it. • Descale the outlet pipe. • Clean the pump housing. • Clean the sieve I took the entire pump apart cleaned it, reinstalled it and still the same issue- I have a feeling the air relief valve has now coincidentally given up the ghost, however, https://www.vetus.com/en/spare-parts/waste-water-systems.html?p=3 you will notice there is no mystical "air-relief valve" on their spare parts section. Has anyone else come across these issues? Cheers, G
  9. Hiya, after some advice if pos Bought our boat a month ago and the vetus water cooled stern gland is leaking... Photos show view from above, leak when pressed at the side and view underneath. It drips when engine is running and spits water out if touched. Could there be a seal gone? Is this something easily fixed? Can we fix it ourselves and does the boat need to come out the water? Thanks for your advice
  10. Does anybody know whether a Vetus combi inverter, shore line and generator can be wired through a Vetus auto change switch? I have had the equipment recently installed and when operating from the battery/inverter the system seems to be using the battery power via the inverter and change over switch to charge the batteries via the combi's charger - or at least that what the LED display shows. There is also not enough power the run the inverter.
  11. How many of you are using vetus bullflex couplings? What kind of experiences with those? What bullflex model and what kind of engine and propeller shaft setups? How many hours you have used it?
  12. Hi. My 2006 Vetus WCS2 loo has decided it won’t stop filling with water once the eco or full flush buttons are pressed. The PCB is the likely culprit but new ones are pricey. Is anyone breaking a WCS2 for spares and has a pcb? Or any other thoughts very welcome. Thanks.
