  1. Hi, Please could you give your recommendations on the internal enclosure to separate the cabin from the engine, batteries etc. For a trad stern. Just getting a boat and this is the one area that is still a project. So there is the floor above the engine for the entrance. But now wall around the engine or to close off the engine bay. Beyond being: solid, sound damping, reasonable weather proof easy to clean from engine grime Ease of engine access. What madatory requirements or practical considers are relevent? What construction would you recommend? Eg plywood, metal etc How to make it sturdy and easy to disassemble? Sure there is much I've missed would love to hear your thoughts! James
  2. I have a 60ft trad with a wide prop on the back and I have a small problem. When passing moored boats I reduce my speed as far as I can however my boat is still slightly fast. I don't know what else I can do to slow down beyond engaging reverse and then drifting passed. What do ther people with trad engines and wide props do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  3. Just sitting here sifting through the murk that is my design process a question occurred to me. In a trad design with engine room and given a completely free hand (blank sheet) is there an optimum distance from the rear of the swim to the engine (or gearbox) position? I guess I'm thinking about prop shaft lengths, bearings etc. I also know that some people have gone for offset shafts to increase boatmans headroom. Is this something which people would generally consider a good idea if the option was there? The engine in question will be a Gardner 3LW with PRM500. Not that that makes much difference I guess! ED: Because I'm trying to write numbers before I'm awake enough to be licenced to do so.
