My boat has a Lister SR2 engine which is great, my problem is the throttle control which keeps slipping back to tickover. There doesn't seem to be any form of adjustment so I think replacement is the way to go. Sadly I don't seem to be able to find a suitable Lister replacement. Is there something else out there that will do the trick? They all seem to be gear change and throttle combined - not much use for the Lister! Alternatively, is there some form of adjustment? Thanks all, Mike

Hi Finally had new build boat delivered by lorry to temporary home yesterday and had it lowered in (Thanks to P&S marine). An emotional day! Despite not having yet connected to mains nor having connected a gas bottle I have a good size snag list. One issue in particular I want to get sorted sharpish (Effectively this weekend), before I hopefully move her to her new home on the 1st of March (Path to mooring blocked by closure). Given experience with the (Budget) builders timeliness to date, I think I may better off fixing this one myself (Will be giving the supplier tomorrow to convince me otherwise) The issue is that they have wired the Vetus SICO engine control so that it is 'push to go backward' where I am used to 'push to go forward' and want to change it to this. I'm by no stretch a mechanic (Even as a hobbyist, that will change soon though I'm sure!) but the installation guide seems to suggest it wouldn't be to complex a DIY job. It looks like I need to: 1) disconnect cable from gearbox 2) Expose rear side of SICO control 3) disconnect gearbox cable from control 4) Reconnect gearbox cable to 'other side' of control 5) reconnect cable to gearbox I have some questions and I was hoping that you guys could help? Am I overcomplicating it: Do I need to perform step 1 & 5? If I perform step 1 & 5, what do I need to watch out for? - will It be under pressure, do I need to expect things to fly off at speed due to hidden spring loading? etc... What do I need to be aware of? Or am I being a wuss and actually I need to fix myself. Man up and deal with the reversed (To me) controls? PS Full and frank review of experience with builder and output is to come. To be fair though, I need to give both of us a reasonable opportunity to identify/fix faults first. Thanks Andy

Hi all, Disclaimer! mechanical noob, so apologies in advance for my missed terminology/diagnoses! I have noticed a small leak from my throttle on my Thornycroft BMC 1.8. I had the RCR out yesterday, the chap mentioned a seal would need to be replaced as this has degraded, hence the leak. As the engine is still nicely purring I was hoping to get to the marina I am on route to, to resolve the issue there. At present the leak is a drip every 10 seconds roughly. I have put a container underneath it, which is collecting the diesel. I have included a couple photos below. 1) I imagine I can buy a replacement seal from BMC and hopefully repair this myself? Is this advisable? is there any risk I can do further damage? I haven't even started to look into how I do this, but just wanted to know if it would be worth me researching the method or not. 2) The diesel has been dripping onto my rubber engine mounts Anything I can do to try and preserve the rubber, other than isolating the drip and keeping diesel away from the mounts? Thanks George
