Hello My husband and I are looking to live on a narrowboat full time with our dog. We have quite a list of requirements and I have planned the "Perfect" boat layout....the main problem is, that it doesn't exist in the real world The perfect layout is: Trad stern to galley, through to salon with wood-burner, door to walk-through bathroom, door to study area with large wardrobe for dressing area, through to bedroom with cupboards and cross bed looking out to the bow. I am thinking no longer than 58ft. I wanted to find out (from those with experience) how tricky / expensive it is to change the layout of a boat...or if it would be better to buy a sail away and start from scratch..? Thank you

Hi, Does anyone know what wood Collingwood make the front doors out of on the widebeam sailaways?? Looks like Sapele but I'm not sure, I'd like to do the rest fo the boat in the same wood. Help much appreciated, I've emailed them but they are notoriously slow in replying once you've given them your cash! Cheers, Will

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this forum and hoping for some advice. We are going to be buying a 70' x 12' Wide Beam next year to fit out ourselves, and ideally would like to find a marina in the Midlands with hardstanding that could accomodate us. Any suggestions and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Neil

Hi all, Help, please. I got my sailaway back to london last month and I'm desperate to get it all wired up. I had an electrician booked in but he let me down and now I'm struggling to find anyone. Any recommendations for someone trustworthy would be much appreciated, I'd like to get the work done asap so I can get everything else done before winter! Thank you Jess

I have embarked on a huge project. I m going to build my own boat. No, never done this before but thats where adventure lies. Starting with bulkheads and electrics. 6mm soft plywood for deck head , 18mm plywood or block wood for bulkheads? And what thickness people usually use for the side panels, please?

Hi Everyone, Trying to get a gauge on whether buying a sailaway and fitting it out myself is in the long run going to be a better option than buying a second hand boat. i'd like to know roughly what it would cost and the kind of time frame that it would take, so anyone with any experience of having done a sailaway project please if you want to share your thoughts and expenses. My Hypothetical build would consist of a very basic layout. Bedroom at the stern of the boat followed by an enclosed bathroom, Galley and living room at the bow. All rooms with just the basic amenities. I would initially have a month of full time availability to work on the boat then followed by 3 full days per week. I Am fortunate that I have family members sufficient in plumbing and gas heating systems so I would get help with that. I would also get a electrician to install a basic solar set up. I'm fully aware that its only relevant to individual skill, design and availability. But just to help me out please state your skill and experience going into your project.

Well I've gone and done it and yes I know for many it's the wrong option but I've put the deposit down on a lined sailaway with additions that comes within my budget and now I've got to wait 12 months ... but in the meantime my thoughts or rather concerns now turn to where to moor the boat long term whilst I start on the fit out. I'd like to be near Atherstone on the Coventry I'm seeking your advice - given that I'm looking at the beginning of 2020 then is it too soon to start knocking on marina, wharf and boat yard doors ? Is it usual for such places to take a holding deposit or reserve a mooring or is it pay in full even if the boat won't be there? I also need a mooring that will tolerate me working on the boat and I've assumed that this would be acceptable but having walked past many moorings I've rarely seen any activity, more like cemeteries than marinas - is this frowned upon ? Any suggestions for suitable long term moorings in and around the Atherstone area ? Thanks in anticipation Martin

Hello all I am looking to get a new build sailaway boat and have had some quotes already, some very reasonable, some incredibly expensive. The company I am looking at is http://www.burscoughboatcompany.co.uk/. They have been runner ups/winners at the Crick show and have a good turnaround time. Is there anyone on this forum who would be interested in giving me a quote? I do have a more detailed spec but in a nutshell it is a 13m L X 3m W widebeam trad stern I am after with a minimum of a 65bhp engine (it will be on a marina off the tidal part of the thames). Let me know as want to get the project started as soon as really Hope to hear from all you boat builders, some of you may have heard from me already if operating a website. Regards Bryan
