Is there any reason we shouldn't be using a domestic cooker converted to lpg on our wide beam? Flavel specifically mentions it won't guarantee their cooker mlb51nds if used on boats (even mentions houseboats). Rona

We bought our boat in November last year, and amongst many other things had the jets on the cooker checked and cleaned. We have a Vanette hob and a Vanette cooker, i can't give the model number atm because am not on the boat, but it's the equipment originally fitted to the boat in 1997. The oven has never really produced enough heat to cook efficiently requiring extra cooking time, but recently it's got worse to the point where it's not much use for cooking anything requiring high temperatures, merely for warming things up. I've done a bit of investigating and there are two separate gas pipes inside the cupboards, one leading to the hob and one to the oven and grill. Now curiously, not only does the hob work well, but so does the grill. It's only the oven that doesn't perform satisfactorily. We've cleaned the holes in the gas jet matrix to the best of our ability but to no avail. Now the thought did strike me that the oven is the only part of these appliances that would employ a thermostat, so maybe it's this that's at fault, but i'm not sure if or how this could be replaced. Certainly there is no noticeable to change to the flame when turning the control knob up from low to high. Another possible clue is that our surveyor noted that the gas regulator looked to be over ten years old and that it is good practice to replace every five years; however, our boat passed the BSS test a few months after purchase and, as previously mentioned, sufficient gas seems to reaching both the hob and grill for them to run satisfactorily. Any ideas?

Hello, Ok so I have a leisure GRB6GVK gas cooker (which is new to me) but I cannot seem to get the bottom oven to work! Very annoying ! It has been converted to LPG as it was from a house. There are two ovens and the top smaller oven makes a noise when the gas is coming out so I know it is working even before I light it but I cannot hear anything from the bottom oven (ie no gas coming out?) any suggestions ? Perhaps its something simple but I have had a good look inside and at the back, anyone have any suggestions ?? Any suggestions appreciated I realise it is quite a specific question. Thanks Martin

Our Thetford oven is very slow to get up to higher temperatures. Is this a known issue?

I've been reading all the threads about gas on this forum, as my mind now turns to getting my hob and oven hooked up. My intention is to get hold of a single length of pipe, run it from lockers to appliances, all properly clipped up etc, then get someone to connect all the hoses, valves, regulators etc, and test and certify. As I understand it I will need :The correct regulator(s), bubble test, hose, bulkhead fitting(s) 2x13kg bottles. 3/8" or 1/2" annealed copper pipe to BS EN1057. Also isolator and hose for oven and a tee to the hob. (I'd like the hob done in pipe without hose as it is accessible). But I'm unclear as to the arrangement at the gas bottle end of things. I have 2 gas lockers (one port one starboard, astern). I don't know how they would both connect to the supply pipe. Or what happens with changeover valves etc? I saw that someone was able to calculate size of pipe and regulators required - well I have a hob with 1x3kw, 1x1.75kw, 1x1kw burners, and the oven is stated as 2.5kw oven, 2.3kw grill but 2.5kw total (I presume you can't oven and grill together though it is twin cavity). The length of run between the nearest locker and the appliances is approximately 10-12 metres. I'm hoping to run it a couple inches up from the floor, all the way through various areas to the kitchen. The hob comes with an lpg adapter nozzle and three lpg jets, the oven is a Belling made especially for LPG only. Just trying to figure it all out at this stage, get an idea of cost and what's involved before going ahead. Thanks for any info.

Hi, Having recently taken the plunge to buy my first narrowboat, I am trying to do a new fit out and finding A LOT of steep learning curves to overcome. Please find other posts listed in this forum, with any helpful advice gratefully received. Oven As long as it is LPG adaptable and has the FSD protection am I right in thinking I can just buy a 'normal' gas oven for the boat? The only issue is how to convert the ignition from 240V mains to 12V. Any ideas? Alarms Cheap but reliable recommendations please (quite the heavy sleeper). Was going to fit a lpg gas (£10.00) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/838-1L-Kitchen-Warning-Alarm-LPG-Natural-Gas-Sensor-Detector-DC-12V-ONLY-/150933060239?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D160908813237%26ps%3D54, smoke (£6.00) and carbon alarm http://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/4566878/Kidde-Carbon-Monoxide-Alarm---Digital-Readout---Battery-Operated-AAs-Included---KS-DCO.html?gclid=CLel0tGU3rYCFaTItAodnmYA2Q#.UXUdlaWBW5Q (£25.00) - is this going too cheap or will these suffice? Fridge Looking at a 12V but will have 240V split that would switch to 240V when plugged into mains. These are really expensive (£400-500)? Is this just the going rate for such a product. It seems anything thats' got 'boat' or 'marine' attached to the product has a heavy premium attached. Hope to hear from some of you soon. Happy Boating Max
