Hi. The lock on my trad stern is just the usual padlock. So why is this so common on boats? Why are common locks that are more secure not typically used? Eg a normal multi point lock from a house. Yes, I get anyone could break in a boat with an angle grinder just that is a little less discret that a 'clump' and their in with a bolt cutter.

River Lee Navigation From: Aqueduct Lock 8 To: Aqueduct Lock 8 Reason: Leaking lower lock gate Tried to get thought lock 8 on the Lee but the lower gate was leaking so bad that the chamber wouldn't fill all the way. One of the timber inserts to the bottom lock gate mitres came off. I've told CRT, but I hope they fix it quickly so I'm not stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Can anyone confirm where the pound lock on the Swift Ditch was, The HE listing puts it where I've marked and ringed in red, but someone has placed a photo of it where I've ringed yellow. The yellow position looks far more plausible s its straight and narrow at that point, and the course of the ditch is also straighter.

Hi, I am thinking of fitting a fuel filler lock like the one on Midland Chandlers. See photo. My filler is a 38mm flush screw cap and the outer containing body sits about 5 to 10mm high above the hull surface and has 4 screw holes to fix it in place. Can anyone tell me how this part is removed / replaced please? Taking the filler cap out it looks like it presses down on a rubber seal although this may be for the cap. If it does then surely fitting the lock under the cap assembly will hold it higher than before and it may not seal? The body is 'painted in place' and I am very wary of trying to remove things when I'm not sure what is holding them in place. In the engine bay the Deisel tank appears to fit flush with the underside of the hull so there is no internal access to the filler assembly. In fact I think it is part of the hull as I can see seam welds around it.

Our handcuff key is in the post but we are not likely to receive it in the next week. If we are travelling from Tring to Welford on the Grand Union (and Leicester branch) are we going to need this key? Or anything else we don’t know about yet? Thank you!

I found this photo showing a broad canal being infilled above a lock in the midst of what looks like an ironworks. I have been unable to determine the location. I did think it might be the Nutbrook Canal at Stanton but have now discarded that idea. Any suggestions as to where this is?

Having bought myself a new bike (electric no less!) for Chrimbo. I decided to cycle down to my boat to try it out. As I passed Dalmuir drop lock I thought I'd take some photos for you guys as it's the only one of its kind (apparently). From Wikipedia (so it must be true!): This is just one side of the bridge. It's the same on the other side.

We are on the Llangollen and came up through New Martin Top lock where the bottom gates were leaking badly. CRT were there and suggested that it may require a stoppage tomorrow Wednesday to fix it properly. They had trouble making a level to let a boat down, but when we went up it was not so bad. I did give the offending gate a tap with my rear fender which may have helped it seal for us. NOTE This stoppage has NOT been confirmed.

OK, I guess I'm not the only one who will be starting on a diet tomorrow. My question is, how many calories can I expect to lose working a lock on average? Assume I arrive at the lock on foot and work the boat through, getting aboard again after the lock, while the better half stays on the boat. Suggestions will be humorously received.

Hello everyone, has work started yet on the Hungerford lock? The last update on the CRT website was from 10 Feb, saying work has been further delayed, planned to be finish in the 4 April. Has anything happened yet? And what's the K&A canal like down that end, is it navigable? Thanks
