  1. We have a shoreline fridge freezer. We believe it is coming to the end of its life. Bottom of the fridge the temp goes down to 6 degrees and the freezer box freezes the product within. At the top of the door the temp is around 14 degrees which isn't good. We are now looking for a new 12v fridge freezer and a Shoreline replacement is £589 product code SKU: SL-RR298 . Is anyone aware of a similar 12 v under the counter fridge freezer which doesn't cost so much? Cheers
  2. I have a dometic crx65 fridge installed in my boat from 2021. Recently I checked with suppliers and directly with dometic that since I never keep it constantly on more than 8-10 hours ( and I switch off main switches every time I get off the boat), the compressor will take anywhere between 12 and 24 to stabilise and cut off the first time (also my ambient temperature is always 30+ degrees). However, I have also noticed that although it is listed to use 5.5amps, I am finding the fridge frequently consuming between 6 and 6.5 amps. Is this normal in the scenario I explained or does the fridge need some maintenance? Thanks
  3. Has anyone got any experience of this fridge? We are on 12v and we are looking for a decent replacement and we have seen the cheaper alternatives on Amazon etc but know they aren't good for battery and we only have our domestic and starter and a solar panel so we want something decent that will last.
  4. Hello, Looking for some advice on a 12 v fridge. It was working last summer. I disconnected it from the 12v power over the winter but it now doesn't seem to be working. I didn't buy it, it came with my boat and it seems to be made by 'The Fridge People'. When I connect it up to the power it makes a sound like it's starting up and the right light flashes on momentarily and then it dies. Every minute or so it tries again to power up but fails. It is quite old but it was working perfectly when I disconnected it last autumn. Do you think there's hope for it or should I get rid of it and look for a new fridge- big expense! Thanks Jo
  5. We have a 240 volt fridge which consumes lots of power. We would like to convert to 12 volt. We cannot buy a 12 volt fridge that will fit into the space. We believe that it is possible to convert the existing fridge. Can anybody advise us how and who can do it, please. Boat in Banbury area
  6. Hello all! This question must do the rounds, but i am in the market for new leisure batteries for our liveaboard narrowboat. we have two solar panels, but recently even after cruising we have a shortage of electricity in the evening. seems like they're just not holding their charge (i just got a multi-meter - will test them tomorrow). they are a little over 2 years old anyway. i am planning to fit three new ones - currently we have 2 x 110 ah lesiures but there is space for 3. i have been looking at the numax 110 ah for around 75 quid each, which apparently come off the same shelf as Lucas batteries. What about these traction batteries, although we only have a 55amp alternator. we are pretty careful with the electricity we use, but we have just bought an electric fridge (!) - a Shoreline RR102 (can't find amp/hour usage rates - anyone?). Can we realistically operate this fridge/freezer (along with lights, radio etc) with 3 leisure batteries, running the engine once or twice a day for an hour or two? If not do you have any suggestions? cheers!!
  7. Hi, Having recently taken the plunge to buy my first narrowboat, I am trying to do a new fit out and finding A LOT of steep learning curves to overcome. Please find other posts listed in this forum, with any helpful advice gratefully received. Oven As long as it is LPG adaptable and has the FSD protection am I right in thinking I can just buy a 'normal' gas oven for the boat? The only issue is how to convert the ignition from 240V mains to 12V. Any ideas? Alarms Cheap but reliable recommendations please (quite the heavy sleeper). Was going to fit a lpg gas (£10.00) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/838-1L-Kitchen-Warning-Alarm-LPG-Natural-Gas-Sensor-Detector-DC-12V-ONLY-/150933060239?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D160908813237%26ps%3D54, smoke (£6.00) and carbon alarm http://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/4566878/Kidde-Carbon-Monoxide-Alarm---Digital-Readout---Battery-Operated-AAs-Included---KS-DCO.html?gclid=CLel0tGU3rYCFaTItAodnmYA2Q#.UXUdlaWBW5Q (£25.00) - is this going too cheap or will these suffice? Fridge Looking at a 12V but will have 240V split that would switch to 240V when plugged into mains. These are really expensive (£400-500)? Is this just the going rate for such a product. It seems anything thats' got 'boat' or 'marine' attached to the product has a heavy premium attached. Hope to hear from some of you soon. Happy Boating Max
  8. Hi everyone, im hoping somone might be able to help. ive recently bought a narrowboat and have just changed the gas bottles after running out. the oven and hot water are working fine since changing over the gas but the fridge (a SIBIR) will not turn on. I’ve been trying for a few days now but still no luck. The fridge was working perfectly on gas until the bottle ran out. i have been pressing and holding down the gas knob at the bottom of the fridge (far right in photo) and then pressing the ignition button (left in photo). Occasionsly I get a spark but the pilot does not stay on. I have tried adjusting the middle dial to every setting but doubt this would make any difference bevause that sets the fridge temperature when turned on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  9. Hi All, How does a boat fridge switch between 12v and 240v when plugged in to shoreline, is it just a case of fitting a rocker switch to the 12v and turning off when plugged into shoreline. Cheers Markymark
  10. Our Zanussi fridge (with ice box) has just given up the ghost (we think!) It is an integrated Model No. ZUS 6144A and is connected to 240v circuit on the boat. it was wired to a junction box which also serves other sockets which are working ok. We pulled the fridge out and put a plug directly on the cable and plugged it in - no joy - no light - no fridge noise! Also checked the fuse and that ok too. We cannot find a replacement on the Zanussi site with the same dimensions and obviously do not want to start 'hacking' the units about to get a bigger one in - not sure this would be an option anyway as the oven is one side and set of drawers the other. The boat (Aqualine) (and fridge) is 7 years old. Is this a reasonable life for this type of unit? Are we possibly missing something? Any ideas where we can get a replacement to fit in the same 'hole' would be welcome.
  11. Fridge compressors are available as 240V ac. or 12/24V dc. so ............... can a 240V ac. fridge compressor be readily adapted to run on 12V dc? I'm told many 240V ac. electrical contraptions such as TV's can be made to run on 12v dc. hence the reason for the question. I suspect the answer is no but I'm purely clockwork and the electrickery stuff I leave to others.

    Fridges

I had removed my original 12v ENGLE fridge as it was grubby and smallish, I fitted a 240v fridge but now need to go back to 12v so I don't need hook up, I'm going to refurbish the Engle one for now, but would rather get a newer version, if anyone is selling a waeco 12v or similar please message me privately
  13. Hey so I am soon going to be getting myself a cheap boat. However from what I have researched electrical power is inneffecient. On campsites we have kept stuff cool by putting it in a bucket of water. Would dangling a cool box off the side of the boat be able to keep my dairy and meat products cool enough or will I need to buy a 12v fridge from somewhere?
