  1. Liveaboard on a 60ft widebeam for a year and looking for some advice re heating. Managed to scrape through last winter and hoping to get my heating sorted out for the upcoming! Our boat (2007) came with a Webasto thermtop-c water diesel heater, with 4 radiators inside the boat. in spring this year the heater stopped working (Would start up and then stop within about 15 seconds). Anyone experienced with these, is it worth getting the Webasto serviced and going again for heating and water in the winter, or should we look to replace it with a new diesel heater, e.g. the Planar models other threads have discussed? Any advice would be much appreciated. We don't have a stove currently, would that be a better use of money for a heating system? Thanks
  2. Please does anyone know if this catalyst is complete and if so, which way up does it sit in the burner. It seems to burn better open end up but I’m still not sure.
  3. Hello! I'm reading lots of old threads about gas water heaters. It's been incredibly useful - thank you everyone, who's already contributed so much to this topic! Sorry, if this has already been addressed somewhere else.. although I couldn't find it.... I'm looking for a quick and cheap way to get hot water please... so i can use the hot water to clean my boat, and have little showers at the end of day of hard toil... She sank last summer, and is still smeared with Mud!! Many of you on this forum were incredibly helpful during that rather sad phase!! I'm still so grateful for all the help and encouragement you gave. I don;t think I'd have been able to get through it without you to be honest! Anway, as a quick fix to getting hot water - would something like this do the trick please? http://www.wayfair.c...tid=91671463572 Are there any safety considerations? Would I be rigth to assume something like this wouldn't be allowed by the Boat Safety Certificate people as a permenant solution?! Can anyone forsee any issues with heating water straght from the Thames?! I mean I'm cool with the cleanliness of the water.. particularly, as I'm primarily using the water to clean a very muddy boat!! But could it cause issues in the heater itself, if not filtered?! When time & more importantly budget allows, I'd like a gas or diesel system that heats water for central heating, and for hot water... In actual fact, I was gutting the boat on Friday, prior to getting stuck in properly, and found a Webasto heater?! A storke of luck I thought... but of course, it was under water for a month.. Any of you genisues think a webasto that's been under water for a month could be made to work again?! Or would it be a waste of time trying, do you think. Thank you!! Marcus x
  4. Hello, I have a Deville diesel heater on my boat, and am looking for someone to come and service it in the London area. it has never worked properly, and I have given it a good clean. I don't really want to muck about doing it myself if it can be avoided! Many thanks, Nara
  5. Hi, As winter approaches I'm determined to get a working diesel heating system, so rather than mess about with 2nd hand units (I've bought two which both have problems), some months ago I took the plunge and bought a brand new, unboxed Hydronic II-H D5Z-H heater off ebay. Since then I've bought both a fuel pump and a non-eberspacher circulation pump and the correct wiring plug. The problem is, I've looked high and low and cannot find mention of this model heater on the Espar or Eberspacher websites, no manual came with the unit and I can't find one online so I'm struggling to work out what wire does what. It seems they've changed colour codes from green to blue. From what little I can find on the internet, this heater gets fitted to certain Skoda and Lexus' as a pre-heater. There are a couple of installation manuals but I can't fathom out the wiring instructions in them. So, has anyone got a wiring diagram for the Eberspacher Hydronic II-H D5Z-H they could send me a copy off please. I almost succumbed to firing up the stove last night, it's only the thought of regulating it that put me off. Thanks in advance Rob
  6. We are fitting out a boat so its bare bones and one thing we have the space for and really feel like we would get plenty of use from is a bath. We have a 1000L watertank. I am just trying to get to grips with what the hot water set ups are in boats. We do have a diesel heater which came with the boat which needs to be set up. I dont fully understand it that would need a calorifier to have the water stored in or can have instant hot water. Main thing im worried about is having to have two large calorofiers to fill the bath. I know also theres LPG boilers you can get. perhaps having the bath hot water run off that would be the best option? What sort of set ups do you bath owners have?
  7. Any recommendations please for a good diesel heater fitter (water not hot air) in the Hull area. My boat's a 50 foot wide beam with a Morso stove, two radiators and a calorifier but I want a backup to provide quick heat when the stove is out.
  8. Hi All, Our 63 foot NB has a decent multi-fuel burner that is at present our one and only way of heating the boat. It is great, EXCEPT the heat doesn't make it's way down the length of the boat to the bathroom and bedroom at the stern (burner is near the bow). This is a common issue I understand. We have decided to go for a cheap Eberspacher copy (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171155028516?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) that an acquaintance of mine has fitted and says is very good. We only want to use it for maybe an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, just to take the damp and chill off the bedroom and bathroom, continuing to use the burner as our main source of heat. We already have rads installed that used to be connected to a calorifier, but which is now connected to our hot water supply. I know this is likely to open up a can of worms, as different folks have different experiences, but generally speaking does this sound like a good route to go down? Is there another option? Someone mentioned a combo-boiler to me, but these are expensive so it seems (> £1.3k) and usually need 230v elec (we are CC'ers by the way, although we do have an inverter, but would rather save our batteries). Our burner does not have a back boiler, although we want to be able to have a blast of central heating in the morning, so this would not really be an option. This is our first winter onboard, so open to advice! Cheers for now!!! ps, can we get hot water from the diesel heater too, in combination with our existing calorifier??
  9. Dear Forum, First post! We are fitting out our boat and want to replace the solid fuel stove for a diesel heater. Lockgate/Morso Squirrel and Kabola Old dutch seem to be our favourites in terms of design and I hear they are both reasonably reliable. Problem: I can't find a single chandlery, place, person who sells them. Lockgate is not responding Kabola.nl doesn't list them kuranda marine - kabola's distributor in UK - only list the OD7 which seems a bit much for our 40ft as it has 7kw. Could anyone advise where to get either of the above? I am leaning towards the Old Dutch 4. So I would be super happy if someone could point me in a directin. Thank you Forum. Phelan
