The 12 volt 40 amp relay behind the control panel is buzzing. It only occurs with the engine running It does not occur with the engine switched on but not running It does not occur with the engine switched off The engine is a Beta 43, 2006 vintage The control panel is the Beta "C" with tachometer, oil pressure gauge, volt meter, water temperature, green power on light, red warning lights for oil pressure, engine alternator, domestic alternator. And warning buzzer. The control panel shows all lights before engine startup and all red warning lights go out after engine start up. The engine needs to be started at higher revs than tickover but as soon as the engine starts the alternator warning lights go out and remain out when returned to tickover. The engine battery appears to charge ok (the engine alternator feeds a diode splitter which then feeds the engine battery and the bow thruster battery) charging is a little slow but I think this could be explained by the lower voltage that would be obtained by using a diode splitter. The domestic batteries appear to charge ok (4x Trojan t105 type batteries wired series/parallel for 12v. Solar recently installed I thought it could possibly be the solar causing it, but it still happens with the solar controller output isolated. Can anyone A) tell me what this relay does any suggestions as to what the problem is and how to fix it Ps I did not insert the emoji, the furum software did. It was supposed to be "B bracket"

Hi. I have a norwegian displacemeant / semi displacemeant Tresfjord 26 boat and im thinking about chancing the propeller. 8m long (waterline is 7.4m) and 2.8m wide, draft is 1m. Boat weights 2500kg fully loaded. Beta engine is rated 43hp @2800rpm, prm 150 gearbox is 1:2,09. It says on beta's website that the right propeller for beta 43 with gearbox ratio of 1:2 is a three blade 18x12. Would a 3 blade 18x13 propeller be over pitched? What kind of propellers do people have with this same engine and gearbox setup and what is the achiavable max engine rpm. I dont want a propeller that is oversized and i wont be able to reach 2800rpm My current propeller is a vetus 3 blade 16x14 and im getting maximum of 3000rpm and at cruising speed my propeller slip is 40% Regards Henri

I am specifying my electrical and engine requirements before I get The Fit-Out pontoon to draw everything up for a few boat builders and I have seen that the base spec I am being offered is a 38 canaline unit with an upgrade option to a Beta 43. I am more than prepared to pay for the Beta 43 but for a few £100 more I can get a Beta 50 which comes with the PRM 150 and dual alternators with the ability to upgrade to a 24v domestic alternator which would work well with my proposed 48/3000 Victron Multiplus II inverter charger. Has anyone got any thoughts on whether the Beta 50 is a bit over the top for a 60ft semi-trad josher or am I on a winner? PS I know I probably need dual skin tanks which will be more £ but I like the idea of the better torque. Any help much appreciated Steve

My Beta 43 domestic alternator has been a bit flakey on occasion recently. I've seen it being slow to excite on start up but eventually kicking in, maybe as much as a few minutes into running. It also gave me a little over 15v the other day, and has a couple of times also shown about half the Amps I'd expect after night in on batteries - I often see a bit above or below 100 amps on start up, but I'm talking about 50 here. She's been fine the last couple of days, but they aren't self healing, are they! The engine is a 2008 Beta 43, and the alternator is, like everything else of course, painted green so I can't see any identifying marks. Beta themselves have been very helpful and tell me its an Iskra 14V 150A alternator IA1058 11.203.124 which they no longer use, but they can source one with a 2 month lead time. I'm suspecting the regulator/brushes, but Googling til my fingers bleed hasn't turned up either the parts or any part numbers I can take further. I suspect the parts might be common to alternators under other manufacturers names, or perhaps there's an alternative alternator which would be compatible. Beta tell me the newer Iskra 175a they use is a different fit and form, and requires changes to the loom, etc, so that's not an economical way forward. It's a pretty common fit - has anyone been down this road before or is able to cast any light? Thanks for reading.
