In May last year, my father and I were lucky enough to take part in our first Birmingham Canal 24 Hour Challenge. It was a crazy ride, 14 hours of boating on Saturday, an early start on Sunday (4:30 anyone...), breakdowns, rain, hail, thunder, and much more besides. It was also one of the most fun things I have done for a long time - it really lived up to the 'Challenge' part of it's name! We ended up coming 11th out of 25 entries. This year, we have decided to enter with two ABC hire boats and we currently have one berth left. We're looking for someone who enjoys a challenge and would be happy to spend the late May Bank Holiday weekend on the Birmingham Canal Network with a group of like-minded nutters! Previous narrowboating experience helpful but by no means necessary 🙂 Drop me a message if you're interested and I'll get back to you when I can. -
In 2024, Team Branta entered their inaugural BCN 24 Hour Challenge. We came a respectable 11th place out of 25 entrants with our rag-tag team of 5 - The Captain, The Sub-Lieutenant, The Accountant, The German and The Engineer. We are pleased to announce that, for their stirling efforts on the 2024 BCN Challenge, The Captain and The Sub-Lieutenant have both received promotions to Commodore and Captain respectively. We are now planning for 2025 and next year we will be entering two teams. The Commodore will once again lead Team Branta, being joined by The Admiral and the Cabin Boy. The Captain will take the helm of Team Larus alongside The German, with the third berth yet to be filled. On this thread, we shall share our planning, progress and preparations in the lead up to the event.
