  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. I totally understand that they have to remind us of the rules but they could have given us a chance to prove that we are following them. We loved being in a marina but found that we did not venture out that much and when we did it was to the same places. We hope it will be an adventure!
  2. Hi Everyone After being in a marina for a couple of years we have decided to 'travel '. After changing our status on C & R T website I have today received a very condescending response basically saying 'do you know what you are doing?' Why is it that as long as you are registered in a marina you receive nothing? The minute you step out and actually travel the waterway it's like you shouldn't be there? If I wanted to stay put I would have chosen a caravan. Keep me sane with your responses.....please!
  3. The information about the age of the engine came with the sale documents and it's painted on the inside of the side doors so anyone looking in can see it. I think in a past life she was based around Banbury too.
  4. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. She's moored @ Overwater . When we bought her we liked her look and 55ft was just right. The engine was a bonus! The engine was rebuilt in the 80's I think . It was found derelict on a fairground in Gloucester. We have photos of her rebuild but not alot of information. That's why we would love to see her go to a real enthusiast.
  5. Hi everyone In a couple of months time we are putting our boat up for sale. Even though it will be hard for us to part with our her we need more space aboard as we have an engine room with a boatmans cabin. We prefer to use a brokerage for our sale but because we have a Gardner (1932) engine would a brokerage be the best place to advertise? We would really like it if her next owner was a Gardner enthusiast. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.
  6. I think the collar is part of the stove. Cannot see or feel any bolts . We don't know the age of the stove so weld could have been done quite a few years ago. We have a few contacts now but think the 'sleeve' idea might be worth a try. Thanks for kings lock chandlery suggestion.
  7. Thanks for the offer - great idea about putting a sleeve over the area too! Looking into it a bit more today, will attempt to post a picture. Think you're right about the cause, having a Gardner 2L2 'thumping' away probably hasn't helped! lol
  8. Thanks, the crack was about 3" from the bottom ( stove end) so it broke off when removing it from the roof. We're left with the remaining part in the collar. Will check for the bolts you mentioned.
  9. We decided to replace the flue on our multi fuel stove as we discovered a crack in it. Everything was going smoothly until the final part of removing the bottom of the flue away from the flue collar. It appears that the flue has been welded to the collar! Does anyone know of a restorer/fabricator who might be able to help? Many thanks for any advice you may have.
  10. Hi Everyone I've finally got around to re- painting the roof. After looking at previous chats/advice I'm thinking of trying 'Elifanes Multiforte' in cream. I've seen alot of positive information about it but has anyone used it and not been happy with the finish? I'm going with the 'cream' colour but they do only have the one shade. Also it appears to be only available online. Does anyone know of any outlets that sell it? Many thanks for any feedback you may have.
  11. I think when you are dealing on the phone with the same person who is doing the job this can cause a bit of frustration. The best service I have ever received was from Aqueduct Marina, their staff have great customer service skills, especially Jane. Made every job a pleasant experience.
  12. Thanks for the information. I'm considering the Rylards option at the moment. Think it's worth paying the extra. If it doesn't work out will definitely look into a replacement plastic tank.
  13. Hi, I'm sure you will have a great time no matter what! That's the beauty of it. We have planned journeys before and it's amazing how you can clock up the miles. We also amble along and that too is a brilliant way to travel. I do think it will be extra busy out there in June though so we are playing it by ear this year. We will settle for just getting on our boat. Seriously thinking of cruising all year too!
  14. Thanks everyone. As soon as this lockdown is over it will be one of the first jobs I tackle. Roll on the spring. Missin' my boat!
  15. Thanks for the useful info. I would like to avoid going down the bitumen route. We emptied the tank just before christmas, cleaned it out ready to tackle in the spring. Last time , we had a marina sort it but the paint only lasted a year. If you have any paint recommendations that would be suitable please post them, thanks all.
  16. Anyone have the answer as to which is the best product to use on our water tank after preparing the surface? Neutrarust 661, Fertan and Vactan have been suggested but I would love to hear of any tried and tested ( and successful) projects. Many thanks
  17. I think you now have to move forward and not dwell on things. 'Plenty more boats in the sea etc'. You have alot more inside information gained from the advice given and that will help if you decide to continue your search. I really hope you do. There are a number of things I would have different on my boat but it's a life I wouldn't change. Think of this as the end of page 1.
  18. Take a breath! We had the same dilemma a few years ago. Our surveyor advised that if nothing untoward showed up on the survey then not to worry. As others have said as long as you keep an eye on everything and keep on top of all the jobs required just try to enjoy it but if it really feels wrong for you then if you can withdraw from the sale. You normally get this feeling after the sale! Only joking. The boat looks very nice and cosy though, I wish you well.
  19. Thanks everyone for so much info. There's alot to think about. Our water is currently stored in the front part of the boat. We had it cleaned and repainted last year and now it needs doing again! We do have space under the floor of the cratch area & a neighbour suggested a tek tank (unsure of spelling). I guess they've all got pro's & cons especially the fact that the bladders can snag on the sides. Thanks again.
  20. Hi Everyone We're thinking of getting a quote for either a plastic tank or a water bladder for our fresh water. If anyone has any advice on the subject please reply. Many thanks
  21. Hi Our BSC is up for renewal & we are currently on the Caldon Canal. Can anyone suggest a surveyor for the Stoke area that they have some dealings with, Good ones I hope? Thanks
  22. Can anyone suggest a good mobile engineer that could come & advise us of a problem we might have with our stern tube? We are in the Burton On Trent area. Many thanks Sue
