I guess that makes me a traditional fart, then, as I'm not quite ready for "old", just yet.
Maybe but your getting there by the minute
-
By a majority vote they probably would be today, just as Ram's Heads would be Swan's Necks, and Boat Shafts would be Poles.

(Traditional Old Fart)
Hi traditional old fart meet just an old fart
-
Always Guards or Guard Irons in my book (on Narrow boats), whatever the hull material.
Tim
Being new to all this boating thought they were called rubbing strakes

I am after some (well 150ft!) 2.1/2 inch (68mm) convex d-bar rubbing strake.
Does anyone know if you can still get it?
Thanks
Mark
I think convex square edge is what your'e looking for, I use it for handrail on spirol staircases and balcony rails etc
The only thing is I've looked through the stockholders book and the only sizes in there are 2"x1/2" and 1.1/2"x1/2"
Hope this helps

I have a couple of items made from brass that need to be fixed. One is a candle sconce/holder and the other is a brass star.
The need some brazing/welding/soldering (whatever it is called). Can someone advise me of who might be able to do this for me or is there anyone on here who might be able to help.
Thanks
Mark
If you,re anywhere near Burton on Trent at anytime i can silver solder them for you

You can't bend and weld me!!! I'm not having it!!!!!
Seriously...can you work with brass at all? if so...I have a project for you..........
Has your monkey lost something

Try steel stockholders most of them can get aluminium sections, box, tube, channel etc
there's quite a few in the west mids
-
Probably. More river than canal
Richard
I was thinking more Suez or Panama.
-
I'm sorry, but it is very hard to get seasick on canals in our area. Phylis's canal experience is very different to the average cut.
Richard
Why has her canal got waves
-
Having fished the Eastcoast from Hartlepool to Grimsby the only advice is respect the sea.it's only when you take it for granted it bites!
-
You can get seasick on a canal on even the calmest of days. It effects everybody differently im afraid. Some people just dont take to being on the water and no amount of convincing will change that desicion. You could try seasickness tablets if the need arises though.
In my experience as a seafisherman personally only been sick once due to a hangover but iv'e seen grown men lying in the bottom of the boat crying (i want me mam)
even after taking seasick pills but point taken
-
You can if the wind is blowing hard enough.
Sue
Dont go telling her that it'll put me back to sqare one

Wow! What a Hero, someone that the rest of us can look up to!! (I hope SWMBO doesn't read this!)
I went a different route. Yachting for many years, having to get up at ridiculous o'clock to catch the tide, weather man gets it wrong again so SWMBO spends quite a lot of time talking to 'Huey' on the big white telephone etc. THEN I play my trump card. "How would you like a boat on the canal system, dear?" The look of gratitude has to be seen! So, go on, go out and buy a yacht as well. You'll soon win Her round!!
The boss thinks you can get seasick on the canal

I put our house up for sale and told hubby afterwards. He couldn't have cared less
Sue
theres no answer to that

a few nice sunny days relaxing on the river will make things all nice again. my OH had no interest at all in boats till she agreed we could buy one to satiate my desires! now she loves it and can't wait to start our fit out and move aboard. just keep the head down and hope for the best till the warmer weather comes.
cheers
and welcome to my nightmare
nigel
Thanks Nigel
a lot of nice sunny days would be nice after the recent weather. the boss will come round eventually (creep creep)

I seem to recall from the (far distant) days of Biology tuition at school ('O' Levels only!) that Mayflys have a rather short lifespan . . . .
and that's before one buys a boat . . . . .. .
Welcome aboard Squire!
A day at most so I must be living on borrowed time lol
Anyway thanks to everyone for the welcome

Something like this?:
Welcome to boating. Unless you are a business there are no sensible reasons for buying a boat so you are just as crazy as the rest of us!
Richard
