  1. I was good at metalwork at school. Other subjects boring. Staffordshire Live spelt it hygeine as well ! Maybe I can be a journalist.
  2. Reported in local press. Usual issues - storage of raw meat, rats, mouse droppings etc.
  3. You could try telling them that you didn’t actually instruct them to cancel the policy. A point of law like this could keep solicitors and barristers happy for weeks.
  4. Did you cancel the insurance or did they? Worth reading the small print.
  5. Correct Nottingham would be “The pair wor sat on their boats at Trent Bridge sorry, when it wor the victim what wor abusive to Neil Brice.” Obviously errors in translation.
  6. I think it is black pearl granite not marble. Used it for worktops in my kitchen. One of the most impressive stove installations that I have seen. What a pity to remove the best part of it.
  7. Langley Mill boatyard. Top notch job. Stagedamager is the man.

  9. Mine is in the engine compartment on a semi trad. The engine compartment has sound insulation so not much noise in the boat. 8.5 kW and warms the boat up very quickly.
  10. Bit drastic. Called “mek do and mend” around here. Saves all those boring shopping trips.
  11. Thanks Flyboy. My renewal is £129.36. 50ft narrowboat, built 2006. Excess £300. Probably I should move on and do something else! Just spent 2 hours repairing a £25 fence panel. The first mate told me it’s “Nothing New for 22”
  12. Reply said it is due to “rising claims costs due to inflation” and “it has been necessary to apply a general increase in premiums this year”. Inflation is not 21.5% so not very convincing. When was your renewal date Flyboy? I am shopping around this time. First quote came in same as Craftinsure’s renewal quote. Having to shop around every year for house, car, boat insurance as well as energy is a right pain in the stern.
  13. 16 years. Insured with Craftinsure after fit out.
  14. Just received my Craftinsure renewal notice. 21.5% increase from last year !! No claims in 15 years with them. is it just me ?

  16. Probably will ask CaRT to close the moorings on the opposite bank so all those boats don’t spoil the view!

  18. This comes up every year. For over 11m boat you would need 5 of the Lidl ones. Unless the picture is wrong there is no A rating on the can so would be a BSS fail.
  19. But the BSS says plug, cap or valve. The BSS checklist (and your examiner) are wrong to require a plug. I agree it is not a big deal and might be good practice but a plug is not a requirement of the BSS.

  21. Even IP67 will not stop the enclosure breathing with changes in temperature. Very hard to stop condensation. You could try sealing the joints / grommets with silicone sealant or silkaflex.

    Toilets!

Doesn’t apply to Severn Trent though. As per another thread they regularly discharge raw sewage into the Trent and Mersey canal at Shardlow.
  24. Under RCD the “technical file” had to be kept for only 10 years, not always. Not sure what the RCR says.
