They were heading north from Watford, therefore heading towards the M25! Solution would be to moor your boat with one pin, therefore drifting across the canal, every passing boat would have to slow right down to nudge there way past

I run a Peter PJ3 and it has never sounded like that, but that could be due to different exhaust set up, etc and I would say that Richard is probably right saying that it is an SR3, that would suit the age of the boat. But maybe they do have a JP3?

I would favour using the domestics to jump start the engine, then charge your starter battery with the alternator. I've had to use this on cold mornings when starter is not fully charged.

Apsley would be another option if heading south

Get some long pins. If on a river, normal mooring pins might not be enough, find something more substantial.

50lts might be a bit much, I have a big old pair of boats so probably use a little more than most, but if you do the base plate then you would use 40lts I think If you buy 25lts you'll use 35 that's just the way it goes! Remember the base plate is the same as 2 sides.

Speak to the lock keepers at Limehouse closer to the time and see if anyone else is booked in. You'll be fine. Once you're on the river and heading under Tower bridge you'll wonder why you worried. Just watch out for the wake from the Thames clippers and even worse the stupid speed freaks in the ribs! Good luck and enjoy it.

Depends how much you slap on? Are you doing the base plate? I always do 2 coats on the hull and an extra coat or 2 on the water line as well. 3 coats, you'll probably use the best part of 10 x 5lt cans

I thought Hills owned the boats. Tom Hill if I remember James worked for the Hills when they owned the boats, they sold them not long ago to the not relative of James

I was always a little weary of James, would always have a chat, but once I passed him on my boat going north. I was about 400 yards from my mooring and he was heading the other way. He asked how my wife was, I replied fine (she was pregnant at the time). He then unknown to me, moored on our butty got off onto our mooring and knocked on the boat for her. He had never stopped before! She opened a side hatch and chatted to him, he hung around for an uncomfortably long time. Makes you think!

I believe the boats (note not owned by him) have already had a number of items stripped from them. I was not aware of his previous and would have found that very worrying

I don't think there is ever a right way in the wind. Sometimes it goes right, some times you have to pretend that you intended to turn in a very unusual way! Style it out! Look at the wind direction and try and use it if possible. If not maybe nose your bow to the bank and then power around. Everyone will have a different idea

I would guess that it was because Trad boats had their stoves on the left, so if one was to be fitted it could be in the correct place.

We have 300gallon (1200lt) tank on the butty and 300gallon on the motor. 2 weeks of showers baby baths, washing machine (at least twice a week, as well as the washing up, cooking, drinking, etc. One tank just lasts 2 weeks. Then pump across from the motor to the butty and go and get water in the one boat. We always try and keep the motor filled, you never know when there is going to be a freeze or unexpected stoppage. More water storage the better I'd say.

Why not dig a hole fill with concrete, leave 6inches, back fill with soil, then screw in the new twisty anchor that has been offered to you. The council will never know. Out of interest what will happen to the new pins when people give up their moorings, beg most take them with them, what happens to new moorers? It does seem shortsighted of the council not to just fit hoops every 25ft or so.

Take them up on the offer and see if it works. Then worry about it if it doesn't!

Don't they use this to create a damp course for a building that doesn't have one. But a soft bank! Can't see it working long term.
