  1. Hi, I have used 4 pairs of them for domestic and bow thruster batteries and they are excellent, both the large and smaller sizes. All been in use for 13 years. cheers, David
  2. Hi , yes that's the one and it runs happily every day for about two hours, turning a big 24v coach alternator, producing 24v DC for battery charging. David
  3. Hi Micky, I have one of those generators, 1.5Kw was its max, It was a start-o-matic and it was seriously noisy, couldn't hear yourself think near to it. I replaced it with a CS, much pleasanter ! cheers, David
  4. also again looking at google map and knowing very little about the area can't you nip out of the lock at an appropriate tide and turn on the river??? Hi, I don't think you could wind at the google maps place, but yes you could go out on the river, but you would need the lockeepers to help you do it. Wait for slack water! Its worth going to Tarleton, though, Some interesting boats and a very good boatyard and chip shop. cheers, David
  5. This is strange, I have just tried IExplorer and that doesn't work either, so why should it work for some people and not others? I am using 3 mobile by the way. David
  6. I havn't been able to do it either, I tried a month ago and failed using both Firefox and Chrome. Perhaps it will work on IE. I just get this as well: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /forums/index.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. cheers, David
  7. No, I don't think so, we were inbound on the same tide and didn't spot Naughty Cat, but saw 2 or 3 narrowboats, 1 widebeam and the 3 cruisers just below Torksey rail bridge northbound cheers, David
  8. Hi, "May well encounter Phylis, mrsmelly and Wrinkley by the sounds of it." so might we, booked to lock out of W Stockwith at 7am on Saturday, then into Torksey whenever we arrive. What is Wrinkley's boat name? cheers, David

  10. Good morning, we were in the WSYC last night and inquired about the River Idle. They don't have any club trips planned, but they think it is a good idea for as many boats as possible to do the passage so that it remains open for navigation. There might be just 3 boats already up there on those moorings. it looks like a very peaceful river, not sure how far it stays navigable for a 1m draught boat though. cheers, David
  11. A Picture from Castlefield I took last year near the moorings, everything made in steel, made me smile: David
  12. Hi, when you have got through Blackburn, you can moor after Cherry Tree, just before Finnington Bridge. Perfectly safe, we left the barge unattended there for a lot of winter 2010 /11. there are livaboards there as well. cheers, David
  13. Hi, as regards using google web albums, to post a picture on here: 1 open a new tab 2 go to your picture on line using Firefox and right click on it, ( there might be a way using other browsers ) 3 select "view image" 4 right click on the url which should end in .jpg and copy the link 5 paste it into your post after clicking "insert image icon" thats it, and you don't get scrollbars I did it for first time last night here: http://www.canalworl...20 and again :
  14. Humber Princess using bowthruster today after leaving mooring at Goole, pushing an empty barge back against the side after neatly slipping out from behind it:

  16. Did you know that the wheelhouses on those barges can retract into the hull? They leave them down whilst laid up in Goole. I don't think they have bowthrusters, just very skillful skippers. cheers, David

    Snap Happy!

Hello, i could help you there, you need a programme such as Image Salsa, available here: http://www.imagesalsa.com/support2.htm This will create a series of still pictures on your computer from your webcam ( which could be a good old camcorder linked to laptop via a frame grabber, such as a pinacle dazzle ) You could use any cheap usb cam, you would be surprised what weather they can put up with: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ebc0706dc Then you need another pogramme such as Movie Salsa available here: http://www.imagesalsa.com/MovieSalsa/ both programmes take a lot of learning, but are very well written and are infinitely variable. There might well be simpler alternatives out there. I shall set one up myself on the boat one day soon, already have one at home and four at our sailing club. cheers, David
  18. Hello, for 12 years we have run a normal Electrolux domestic under couter fridge from a 24 volt heart interface ( crude ) invertor. 2500 kva left on 18 hours a day, but off 6 hours at night, spare space inside taken up with water bottles and beer, and ice packs in the freezer compartment. No problem at all, but must say that the fridge is extremely well ventilated - it is suspended with a 12" gap under it open to the bilge and it is sited next to the wheelhouse door and also has a 6" gap behind, In a good summer, a 3' x 2' solar panel used keep up with it during the day. cheers, David
  19. Firefox for me, chrome for Chris both on the same computer. We both use gmail so don't need to keep logging in / out of it. Firefox is better for when you want to right click to save an image or " view page source " and things like that. Chrome might be a bit faster, but I wouldn't change. Windows updates are not a problem for either. Cheers, David
  20. Just to reinforce, dont go or come back on spring tides, those Selby bridges are terrifying at speed! quite an experience. cheers, david
  21. Phillips Navigator Britain costs nearly £20 but is very comprehensive David
  22. Hi, as cereal tiller said, you can run the fuel pump separately with a jump lead, and you can make it pulse by hand. Its good practice to do that before fitting any of them to prime the air out of the system. Thats what the professionals do to speed the job and to avoid logging up fault codes. The ecu is cleverer than you think. David
  23. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-BOX-ORIGINAL-JML-HALOGEN-BULB-OVEN-COOKER-/140506284847?pt=UK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes&hash=item20b6d3c32f#ht_3085wt_850 Does anyone know if these things live up to their promise? And importantly, can they cope with an old square wave inverter... the washing machine didn't like it! We can manage the 1.3 KW which it requires when the engine is running David.
  24. Back at Selby basin now, our journey down was uneventful, apart from wondering whether waterskiers were going to be able to get up and away in time when they fell off in front of us, and having an even narrower passage through Selby Toll bridge than usual due to a dirty great lump of tree sticking out of the fendering. The answer is to go on neap tides both ways, Much less debris, less current Much safer. cheers, David
  25. When the boats radioed Cawood bridge to check air draft an hour ago, he said 3.7M and now (HW ) he said 2.9 so I guess its normal. David
