Can anyone help locate my old boat?
midnight cowboy replied to Charlielamus's topic in General Boating
I wonder if CaRT licencing people would pass on a message to the current licence holder? It wouldn't be a GDPR issue if they did. -
Why bother if it’s that old and awful? I use the canal maps app and nick Atty’s excellent ac canal plan website

I love lister HA2 air cooled. Better than my friends Gardiner

Moored by Westport Lake last week - it was very busy (6pm) but an obliging neighbour agreed to move their boat up a ring and we were just able to wedge ourselves in. I agree the swans are a pest - lots of pooooo on the side as we stepped off the boat - but the views over the lake and the park benches are great. My marathon running crew member ran around the lake and said it was better than the towpath runs on other days. I agree the tunnel mouth is good if you are happy to be the first through at 0800. Must try the Holly Inadequate next time I'm passing.

Any fuel boat due in the Nantwich - Middlewich section on Friday 5 May?

I agree with the comments about the Avon - delightful river - locks are well maintained - but the bywashes can indeed be fierce. Do stay at Stratford on the river by the meadow opposite the town. Enjoy

Trip from Stone heading South for 3 days then return
midnight cowboy replied to SteveLevis's topic in Holidays Afloat
Do you mean turn right at Great Haywood onto the Staffs & worcs? If so I would avoid Wolverhampton, stay on the S&W until end of 3 days - the shroppie is not very interesting at the southern end. -

churnet Caldon sand silting stoppage
midnight cowboy replied to midnight cowboy's topic in Stoppages
If you look carefully the earlier update was dated 2022: Detail From Date: 08/04/2023 08:00 To Date: On-going Type: Navigation Closure Reason: Repair Is the towpath closed? No Location Closest waterway: Caldon Canal Starts at: Lock 16 Oakmeadowford Lock Ends at: Lock 16 Oakmeadowford Lock Upstream winding hole: Winding Hole, Oakmeadowford Downstream winding hole: Winding Hole, Flintmill Lock Updates 08/04/2023 14:10 A sand bank has washed in from the river section below Lock 16 on the Caldon Canal. This part of the canal is unnavigable until the section has been dredged and sand bank is cleared. Our dredging team are working to resolve this problem and we will provide a further update as soon as possible 05/04/2022 13:46 Our contractors have now dredged this section and the sand bank has been cleared. Navigation is therefore open again through this location. Thank you for your patience while this work was completed. I have emailed CaRT for clarification as I want to go through early May -
churnet Caldon sand silting stoppage

So boats can get through? How come the stoppage is still up as indefinite on CaRT's list? Tony -
Hi Does anyone know what is happening about CaRT dredging the River Churnet section of the Caldon that's been causing a stoppage? Thanks Tony

A single man would be unlikely to be a high enough priority to be rehoused by the local authority - or even sponsored in a private rental flat. As somebody has already pointed out although he is clearly an anti-social eccentric personality, he is not mentally ill in the sense that the authorities would intervene. Probably best we all ignore him and his hysterical outbursts - including the local press - he will either float away or sink again.

CRT Top Tips: best places to moor a boat

Why not just move it?? -
Newer track has wonderful concrete sleepers - and what about reinforced concrete fence posts and beams from your local builder who otherwise has to pay landfill charges to dump them?
-
If anyone is in a place the public have access and in immediate need of assessment by mental health services - i.e. on the cut (but not inside his boat) then the police should intervene under s136 of the Mental Health Act. If he's that well known in the area, the fact they haven't yet suggests that, whilst he may be someone with personal difficulties, he is not significantly mentally ill.

Caldon closed for 6-and-a-half months from September
midnight cowboy replied to AndrewIC's topic in Stoppages
I am planning a trip up to Froghall from the main line first week in May - does anyone locally understand what's going on and whether I will be able to go up and down during the designated time slots and /or out of working hours as well - as CaRT stoppages site suggest? Don't put the CaRT before the horse - and keep the boat behind T -
We've had illuminated bridge hole on the Regent's Canal in London for years now . . .

Looking for ideas for a 9 day cruise around the north
midnight cowboy replied to HenryFreeman's topic in General Boating
I would agree with the comments about the L&L - the swing bridges are the only issue. Not sure how single handers can manage them. Great canal and places to visit. Not sure where you will start from, but we went from Skipton to Burnley (see the embankment) and back to Bingley before finishing in Skipton in a week on a hire boat some years ago. Water levels were low (bottomed out in places). -
Hi Hugh our share is also at Nantwich- what name is yours? tony nb Meridian
