  1. Well no , Antarctic actually. The Antarctic blast about to freeze the nation. The cold air mass is a "classic Antarctic blast" that originated near the coast of Antarctica during the week, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said. The coldest air is expected to move through South-West Australia , Victoria and central parts on Monday night and Tuesday, the bureau said. And yes , those systems can travel " a hell of a long way " northward , and often do at this time of the year. Locals just say " arctic " for short abbreviation here. A bit like your " innit " ? Its fun being pedantic , innit ?
  2. Haha , good for you ... We had this last night , straight from the arctic SEVERE weather warnings have been issued for large parts of Australia as a massive pool of cold air arrives bringing hail and snow. The severe weather conditions have moved east from South Australia after smashing the state with horrendous wind and rain, leading to falling trees and massive power cuts. A strong cold front tore through South Australia on Sunday night and yesterday creating gusts of more than 100km/h and bringing in a week of wild and extreme weather. Weather will still remain chilly with snow predicted for parts of the Adelaide Hills and mid-north with up to 80mm of rain expected by the afternoon with flooding also a possibility. Those conditions combined means the state will struggle to hit double digits temperature wise with a high today of just 11C. A heavy shower is moving through the Adelaide area and more damaging winds and hail is likely. We do not get snow very often .....
  3. 4th edition and regarded as the " bible" in the US . Regardless of that , I don`t know who " Gibbo " is , or if I should. The whole point was , that he wrote a very good article addressing the issues regarding the original post. I was given a PDF document of it all , it is not easy to lift something from a PDF and post it here without a lot of effort , ( at least for me it isn`t). It was not nice to go to all that trouble , only to get those comments for the effort. At least I tried.
  4. There were six diagrams in total....and a lot of text. I only see one , ( the only one that seems to have uploaded ) The remainder of the entire post disappeared . We had a rather severe storm last night , 125 km / hour winds and horizontal hail . I suspect the culprit was the intermittent power cuts during uploading.. I tried to fix it , like I said before ...nothing more to say ?
  5. I have " edited " nothing actually. They are not my diagrams. They are drawn by Nigel Calder.
  6. Well , if you say so. I was trying to prepare a ( unfortunately lengthy ) reply lifted from a rather equally lengthy article written by a gentleman named Nigel Calder. You may have heard of him. Then again , maybe not. Something went wrong and it evaporated into the ether .....I put it all back together to fix it all , but I will not bother now. For anyone actually interested , you can message me , as the article was neither " irrelevant " nor " incorrect." , quite the contrary .
  7. No , indeed it is not. The original question may seem simple , but is very user specific. And , of course , lot of assumptions....... Good luck all.
  8. Maybe this will make things a little clearer ? Xantrex series regulator. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xantrex.com%2Fpower-products%2Fpower-accessories%2Falternator-regulator.aspx&psig=AFQjCNEFgzdkC1we9upPXcYvKIWJUO2TzA&ust=1468232640953571
  9. Great name . Looking forward to more updates .
  10. Wow ! That was quick ! Thank you !
  11. I don`t think you could do much better than that ...........
  12. Do I need a moderator to do that ? I`m a bit " forum challenged " LOL .....
  13. Hey Wooly , clear something up for me .... About those water tanks ......Where are they located on board ? How many Litres ? 1 kg weight for 1 Litre of fresh water .....so , I`m thinking if the tanks are located low enough , ideally below water level , ( but that will likely not be possible) .You should possibly be able to gain some stability if they are placed correctly for / aft , and low enough , and balanced port/starboard .You would need to couple them together with some hose to get them to fill ( and empty ) equally to maintain balance but should be possible.???
  14. Hello everyone , its 8.2 Degrees C ( 46.7 F) outside , but toasty warm inside the cabin space.
  15. Nothing wrong with asking those sort of questions Quaysider , its exactly the same thing that has been on my mind recently too. If you get it wrong you have to do it over .......there is a lot to ergonomics and function . And yes , I was going to ask the kind people here myself.............. Is there a significant difference which way the bed is placed ?
  16. Low loader and prime mover was the plan mate ., but I have since found someone who has an adjustable houseboat trailer ( it adjusts in width to suit the pontoon / float spacing ) so that will be the preferred way now , as it saves the cost of a crane .( This trailer can be backed straight into the water .) Expensive . As of completion .......hmmmmm.......no idea. I wasn`t going to do any more work until Saturday , but I went into the shed tonight , and did some more work on the ceiling plate . I made a shallow surround for the ceiling plate and put some brass channel around the edges to make the plate a little more rigid. It was bowing under its own weight ! The shallow sides are cut from a length of recycled galv. stormwater downpipe , and the brass channel came from an old trashed fire screen. Cutting slots into the sides of the surround. Folding the corners. Ceiling plate with brass channel fixed on. External corner. Upside down picture of what this will look like when put in place. That was another two hours work believe it or not ......maybe I`m just slow
  17. I agree with the guys about epoxy and glass. There are two more ways that work well: Titebond III and canvas : http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=83289&page=3#entry1790186 http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=60915 And Liquid Flash : https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi946q_18vNAhWGppQKHW2sDRsQFggbMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionchemicals.com.au%2Fworkspace%2Ffile%2Fproduct%2Fliquid-flash-1-18315.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHX_Sq85hNCM7TtpSqUN1sAlrYDIw Good surface preparation is key to success for all methods. Good luck with it.
  18. Hi Gavin . The Huntsman spiders are generally quite harmless and shy , but if you tease or aggravate them , they can bite , especially the big ones. What can happen is that they could invite themselves to your bedding if you let them inside , and that`s when you could get bitten I guess. Some people over here handle them and keep them as pets !
  19. Framing around the drop box is in place. Bottom of the drop box is flush with the ceiling. The rain stopped any more work ( on the roof) today , so thats it until next weekend.
  20. Hi Wooly , Would be best if you can do a good deal on the galv. for the trailer , I looked into it once myself , and the whole thing would need to be sand blasted perfectly clean first , and then dipped into a hot zinc bath .Turned out to be prohibitively expensive for me in the end. You could do individual parts I guess , but then you need to weld the galv , and that job is a PITA , as you no doubt know. Either way , that trailer is no toy , to be sure ! Looking forward to seeing more on that .....
  21. Different kinds can be used.
  22. Those are slipper leaf springs , fixed only at the eye ( front ) end. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiZsb-3gsXNAhXGnZQKHeUmAL8QFgggMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etrailer.com%2Ffaq-Slipper-Spring-Trailer-Suspension-Review.aspx&usg=AFQjCNHwmBCha_KDRwBHtynW9ss2HVTu0g
