  6. If I was going around again, I would not bother with installing bubble testers. Yes the Socal imperial bubble testers were the 10mm ones with the 10mm fitting replaced with an imperial ones (IMO). The bubble tester did serve one purpose. I was having trouble getting my Morco DB61B to light up. Looking at the bubble tester showed the line to be passing black gunge from the bottle. (blowing the line backwards cleared it.) (My gas locker was not quite tall enough to have a proper fall of the HP lines.)
  7. If we stuck to the technicalities of boats, we could replace this forum with a wiki in under a year, and then we could twiddle our thumbs when not boating. 🙂 (because I'm not good at using the written word). I got my gas piping from Socal and it felt so much nicer being imperial. They supplied my bubble testers converted to imperial as well. I've had more difficulty though, in sourcing imperial propane.

  9. I hate widebeams. Not because they are wide, but because I haven't got one.
  10. I pay £8 per month for patreon membership for the Blondihacks channel about metal working/machining. She puts up a ~30min vlog once a week. I have learnt a lot from it and it is well presented. The freebies that come with the subscription are of no use to me, I just pay up out of a sense of gratitude for what I consider is the best viewing available across all channels.
  11. Where on the canal system is nearest to a high power car EV charging site, and how long a cable would you need to connect a boat to it?
  12. I'm amazed that you have not had a response from Tuckey's! Emails are unreliable, presumably you have rung them??
  13. and many successful (and otherwise) businesses start off with a total first venture failure... Starting a business: 1. Get your business model set down in black & white. 2. Cost it fully, absolutely every cost. 3. Work out the throughput you need to make a decent profit. 4. Does your catchment area have the ability to provide & sustain that throughput? 5. Ok, it so far it passes with flying colours. 6. Ask yourself, "Why hasn't anybody else done it?" Don't move on until you have a convincing answer. 7. Ask yourself what changes to circumstances could kill the business. 8. Ask yourself how dependant the business is on you personally. If Covid took you offline for 4 weeks, would the business survive? 9. Ask yourself what particular skill or ability makes you the one for this business. 9.5 Ask yourself what aspect of the business excites you and could be distorting your judgement. 10. Ask how easy would it be for somebody to copy and compete with your business.
  14. My washing machine failed this morning. Blows the RCD. I live in a house now. Getting it replaced will be a doddle, delivery to the door. I think back to how much work it was to get a standard WMC installed in my boat and I'm glad I'm not in my boat. No, I was never prepared to have a primitive washing system on my boat even though many on here say that bashing two stones together works well.
  15. Radiators use 2 mechanisms to transfer heat, conduction and radiation. Both can heat an adjacent medium such as air, which if it can move, can move the heat elsewhere, which is called convection. But there are only the 2 fundamental mechanisms at work in getting the heat out of the source. Convection is a secondary process.
  16. Humph. My neighbour, not a boat, has a woodburner as their main heating. Despite the high chimney, when the wind is in the wrong direction, the smoke comes straight down and into my house and makes breathing difficult when they start up. Most of the time it is not a problem but just now and again it is awful.
