  3. Which is why he doesn't need it! And it is still very pretty!
  4. This is not what you need but it is very pretty.

  6. If hot air can get from the grate into the boiler pipes then I would think lighting the stove is a no no.
  7. The ladders i don't like are the ones with no room for your toes!!!
  8. Why is that battery cable not connected to the boat?
  9. How about stopping overnight using mud weights and not disembarking, where navigation was not impeded? Would that be ok?
  10. May I venture a conflicting opinion? Many problems with weed hatches are due to overtightening not undertightening. Typically a nervous person tries too hard and tightens a perfectly working hatch too hard and either 1. The hatch cover distorts making a poor seal that prompts even more overtightening next time. 2. The bolt thread weakens or fails prompting even more overtightening next time. If the sealing gasket is in poor condition or has bits missing then again there is a temptation to try and overcome the problem by overtightening - this will NOT work. The only good cure is to replace the seal. A weed hatch in good condition does not need to screwed down super hard. Ideally the length of the wrench supplied, or handle fitted is meant to provide the right level of tightness when reasonable pressure is applied. If you end up using an extra lever or every ounce of grunt you possess then you are overtightening it.
  11. Quite difficult I would think to guarantee that you left no voids. In insulating my gunnels I boarded them & then drilled 8mm holes at 3 inch intervals (vert & horiz) and squirted them. I find it often doesn't expand as much as you would expect. I would recommend building a sample setup & practicing before you go down this route.
  12. No, what I was trying to say, and obviously put badly, was that there was something about the manner of the post that raised my hackles, completely independently of the argument he was offering. I am still not saying whether I agree with the substance of his statement, just that it carried a strange overtone that predisposed me to judge his message harshly. Some others on here have this talent also, to a lesser degree. They make statements that I find to be highly accurate but in a manner that leave me wanting to disagree. Some others have the opposite talent, they make statements that are more or less acceptable but do so with a generosity of spirit that makes me want to agree with them! Ok, these are nuances that are not significant in the grand scheme of things, but I find it interesting.
  13. Put a pic of your boat on here (I assume you have a boat) and I promise to wave if I see it. On a sunny day 20 boats can pass me so I can't guarantee I'll be looking. If you want to generate conversation having a talking piece can help, such as an unusual dog.
  14. "Ok, for my first litter-picking exercise, he says you just need to grapple with the stuff around the lock..."
  15. sealing parallel threads - loctite 55 string is great.
  16. We are relying upon you to save civilisation. Go to it!
  17. I know a bloke who can supply a drone - he plays bagpipes, but unfortunately it is not radio controlled.
  18. Amazing. I read this and think, this guy really knows his stuff, and he expresses it with clinical perfection. Yet I am left feeling totally hostile towards him. Very strange.
