The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked... I suppose you have turned the fuel supply back on? I know of someone who didn't, he got a surprising distance before the engine stopped!
-
Why not ring the supplier and ask them?!

I don't know the answer but would running it through an isolation transformer work?
Fully expect to be told NO but maybe with an explanation.(still a schoolboy at heart
The generator might object to an inductive load on connection. Equally, it might not!

Having only just seen this thread, my advice would be cc'ing in the places you are interested in with a widebeam will be difficult. If you are set on a wide boat, find a marina. Many (most?) are tolerant to people who 'spend a lot of time on their boats' so long as you are good neighbours.

Sharpness for the Vale of Berkeley railway, but you'll have to help lay some track. Lydney Harbour for the Dean Forest railway.

There are some spares available here Lilyking Stoves Spare Parts - StoveSpareParts it looks as if UK Stoves Ltd are just a retailer like several others.
Make sure you can get the old collar off before buying a new one, or you may find you have a new collar and a broken stove.

Too late for you now, but vitreous enamelled flue would have done a smart job. It would look as good as Andrew's, but a lot less faff and hassle.
My enameled flue lasted about 5 years before I put my finger through it. Now using stainless which will outlast me. It wasn't even much more expensive.

It's most likely due to it being an automotive model. We have one, it starts unaided down to battery voltages of about 12.4 V but needs the engine to run for a minute or two to get it going for lower terminal voltages. It's difficult or impossible to convert the automotive version to a marine version according to a Webasto servicing centre.

Or gassing yourself with sulphur dioxide (I think), anyway a nasty gas that a bit of exposure makes you go nose blind and then does nasty thing sot you. Any tarnished bright metal around the batteries?
Hydrogen sulphide. Rotten eggs or fart smell. You can only smell it in low concentrations, which makes it dangerous.

I can’t imagine these would be good in hard ground but has anyone had any experience of them in softer ground?
They're only useful in undisturbed ground. They're great in turf over topsoil, difficult to get into gravelly stuff, and we've bent most of our set of four on first use (admittedly on a 35 T boat when a 400 T commercial passed).

Was the not Firefly, the steam hire boat. I am sure that was gas fired when being hired.
The steam Firefly was gas fuelled, but converted in the nineties to an air-cooled Lister diesel.

I've had an intention (for a long time) to put very large tiles (75 cm or more) over the fireboard, held in place with wooden beading at the edge and probably spacers with flexible mastic in-between the horizontal joints.

I had a quote for a domestic installation a few years ago. Although the boiler was fairly cheap, the installation would have occupied most of the garage. Since then the cost of pellets has gone up greatly. We've still got our oil boiler and struggling to find a realistic alternative.

Other villages might dispute that (other than the 3 km or so to the village, but two nice pubs there). A moribund side that I used to dance with spent a year trying to learn Bampton style, it's difficult as you don't always start off the left foot. Satisfying when we all got it right, but we went back to our energetic version of Ducklington.

3. We like mooring in the center of things, and out in the middle of nowhere, but we do need to be able to get on and off the boat, and be able to walk to the cars
You won't find much of the centre of things above Port Meadow. Lechlade is a pleasant town with plenty of bank to moor to, otherwise there are a few small villages not very close to the river.

Does the stern gland need tightening? Half a turn on each of the nuts, ideally checking that the two plates are parallel using vernier calipers.

You dont need to relocate the consumer unit. Just fit a DP 16amp MCB in a double enclosure at the front and jobs done.

You will have to run the earth cable straight through as there is no earth terminal in the enclosure.
I think (although it's only after a quick think!) I'd prefer a fused RCD at the point of entry: something like this: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/SMRCD10W.html It will protect against live-earth faults and overcurrent (via the fuse). It's overkill though!

Worth reading for anyone looking at galvanic isolators.
A few reasons given there for using a GI with monitoring capability, as is required by ABYC standards.

Safeshore are a well known supplier of GI. I'd buy direct from them. (In fact I did )
Found them very helpful.
I've just found their website. It's a lot more professional than their eBay ads!

Yes, I spotted the rather random pricing in the text body. They sell a number of different versions all with different prices and current ratings. It must make it confusing for the seller! And yes, the advert is a mess! What attracted me was the status monitor, which as far as I can see neither the Victron nor the Sterling at a bit over £100 have.

Hi all, has anyone had any experience of this make of GI?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172813847987?
They look alright, I'm thinking of replacing our 1 kW isolating transformer as our marina is uprating the shore supply from 6 A to 16 A.

Our Jabsco 2.9 pump is pretty quiet (when mounted on something firm) and has been reliable so far. My only criticism is that the little blue plastic clips that hold the pipe connectors in place are as fragile as can be. Worth getting a few spares.

I've noticed a significant number of dogs (not all, obviously) have trained humans to follow them around bagging up their waste - for free too. Perhaps we could extend the system?
But since brexit the foreigners aren't coming here and taking our jobbies.

Amazon sell that one, so will get some. (I hate Amazon but sometimes it's useful - and it's a worthwhile challenge to find cheaper suppliers!) It gets only one poor review (plus one saying it's too expensive!) unlike some of the other products which moan about flaking, colour and everything. I'd prefer a brush on one, can apply just before leaving the boat and then come back after a few days and set a fire to cure it. I can't easily get the stove outside, I've just installed a new flue.
Thanks for all the comments.

Don't forget to take the spanner off before trying to start the engine. This is the voice of experience 😳
