Thankyou for your support and kind words, I would like to think ive kicked it, i know many people suddenly fall after months of stopping however i am lucky , as i have stopped now for 5 months and i wanted to stop. To be honest there lies the truth, i wanted to stop, once i had faced the habit and decided to try and brake the habit ,the addiction quickly disapated. So occasionaly after a meal or perhaps a nite down the pub , i will think back as to how i once enjoyed a smoke at those moments, (remiss) perhaps, But even so, i now DONT want one. I now watch others huddled outside in the rain enjoying there smoke, and am thankfull i am no longer one. regards Martin
  5. Not sure, as to thickness to be honest, although of similar profile and no neither were galvanised However I was just trying to state something my ol man once brought up in conversation with me, and was sharing.
  6. My Dad now 88, An ex steel worker from Llanelli would say something like this (of course rust is not what u should fear its corrosion thats a problem ) british steel up to the 70S had a much greater cobalt and and carbon ?? something content, this he claimed prouduced longevity. but longevity was not what the purchasers wanted they wanted cheeper softer steel, and 20 years ago we saw a new barn built with cheep roll form cladding next to a very old and rusty barn perhaps 40 yrs old, recently heard that the old barn is still very rusty, the new one also very rusty the old water tight the new peppered in holes ??? as the op enquired there must be a difference and we, will never know i fear ?

Thankyou Angelwood is slowly getting there, i guess another twelve months and most of it will be completed, well we hope, amazing just how wonderfull just being by the canalside is let alone cruising. The paintwork will i guess be the final part of the plan, and im sure once the potholing has been done i shall be able to spend more time there Martin

A little update, Boat passed the bsc, then went dry dock for a good clean inspection and blacking all good, very reassuring after all that Angelwood has been through. And Nicotine is still out of my life, finding the boat and all the people i meet simply wonderfull and am looking forward to the continued re-fit over the comming months. But the funny thing is i started this post with a statement of nicotine/health etc. sice squiting i quickly found forgoten senses taste smell etc, unfortunately i have gained a few pounds and put this down to snacking etc, well then stomach cramps came? oh and tiredness, then well stomach issues?? to the point a reluctant visit to the doctor has found me on the urgent list for a camera crew to go pot holing where no light should shine, well it is funny how things said in jest can be just around the corner eh!!! regards Martin
  10. Can anyone local recomend a B&B Please, i only get 1 weekend in 7 off and would like to go for 2 days and stop over save on travelling, and i shall try and convince swmbo that its a romantic treat haha well can but try!!!! Sorry, recomendations of B&B near the museum thanks
  11. Ive noticed over the years that nissan (jap) batteries could last the lifetime of the car? infact last year i went to a bluebird estate 1986 with its original battery, and i wonder if its the way there exsternal reg worked? as when you start them up the reg would initially charge at nr18v for about ten minutes then drop to 13.9v ??? anyhow as to the boot lace ferroules ive bought a couple of hundred for the build, the ones that arent use ive agreed to give them to my bsc examiner so he can fit and show so to speak. kind regards Martin
  12. It just so happens ive got the day off (woop woop) and have now marked it up on the calender, it was the Saul festivals that got me intrested in canals and boats. I hope (im sure it will ) this is the start of many celebrations on the Stroud waterways, thanks for the information and i urge everyone who can, to support. regards Martin

    calorifier

Well its my understanding that i cant ??? Just had bsc done with nothing in the boat as refitting and was told that cant fit one unless its room sealed etc etc, but again been told that the flu length has to be long. A certain chandlers in the midlands said i could fit what i like as the boat is 17 years old and just get the next bsc done by a different examiner?? Im sure documentation when bsc is done must state whats on boat at time of test? If theres a way i can fit a paloma type heater i would be gratefull for advice, i lived in a caravan for a year with a carver cascade water heater and i thought that was very good, thanks again Martin

    calorifier

i have taken that on board, thankyou all, i guess sometimes you can cut to many corners. I would rather have a paloma to be honest haha
  16. Well not needed immediately, But things are progressing, and before i know it i will need one, so if any of you wonderfull people wish to dispose of a calorifier please bear me in mynd. Likewise if you know of a great price for a new one anywhere please also forward any info. Like all of us im allways trying to save money during the build, and have been looking for some alternative porthole liners and think (awaiting delivery ) i may of stumbled across another form. I have ordered 12" snare drum body for £28.00, and i hope to cut x4 loops out of the body to make x4 port hole liners il get back with the outcome and if successfull regards Martin
  17. I would unbolt and remove the whole burner pot , it only takes a few minutes really, once out you will also be able to give it a really good clean and access to thermocouple is a lot easier. If the threads and nut are all clogged up just cut it off and replace with new, or failing that drill a hole next to old one and simply fit new hope this is off some help regards Martin
  18. I have similar views having driven the 40 ish miles to bham to partake in (as believed) the mecca of curry, initially my own glutony drove me to such adventures, indeed wherever i visit i seek a good quality curry, however my tastes are not yours or yours mine. With the amazing amount of choice these days competition is significant. Im not one for bright lghts and funky chairs n tables, just want quality food, in my town i use the same grubby take away as i have for many years, i travel past possibly 20 others all with5 stars from the eho, the one I use is so proud of climbing from 1 star to 2. But the honesty of the food, the quality of the meat, the fact that all is homemade inc samosas the size of pasties . Perhaps we should start cwdf star rating like AAstars for places we all believe in, and trust our recomendation to others. oh the take away is called The City Indian Gloucester

    rayburns

Now heres the thought , as were starting a fresh the boat is fully ballasted the whole length with floor and insulation, and now wiring is going inn etc. i have a old english stove all serviced to go in, but have been offered another with back boiler ?? At this stage ive been advised the boat still requires approx 3.7 tonnes of weight to get her sat right, Now to the q Rayburns I am intrested if any one uses one on a boat either solid fuel or oil, my trail of thought being heat cooking water heater oh and ballast ??? is a rayburn oiler likely to drink much more than a kabola? As for the solid fuel one, summers not an issue as we have cool two ring glass type lpg hob to install if we go this route. Or if i kept the kabola i have as a 2nd source of heat i could opt solid fuel range as alternate source of heating cooking etc Thankyou all for your thoughts and advise Martin
  21. I would think a little before leaving the 10mm gap. In my experience a bank of cells that are being cycled fully may last longer if packed in tight together as the walls of each battery cell support the other, thus aiding the battery structural strength, just a thought!!!
  22. What a wonderfull day today has been the weather really helped progress today and insulation is alomost all complete, so its on to the wiring soon, my boat safety examiner was passing today and an update to progress was made, when it comes to wiring he stated that the new regs say all cable ends must be fitted with boot lace type ferroles?? really ??. Any views to the accuracy of this please and also any other installation tips will br greatfully received regards Martin
  23. Forgive me for such ignorance, but stumbled across thread and not sure what pump has to achieve, my guess which could be way off on another tangent but have you concidered a s/hand electric coolant pump from a car ? Screen washer pumps ltd to short 5 second blasts
  24. I Think At times the name can be quite a powerfull statement, when we purchased Angelwood some 6 months ago after it being saved from its Sinking we toiled with names, alas nothing apt came to us. Indeed The name Angelwood grew it came from a Miss Angel and A certain mr wood. i Didnt Like it any way but its grown as has the boat in my thoughts and indeed my heart, to the point swmbo blurted out a name i really liked the other day but some how i now feel almost reluctant t change. oh swmbo was reflecting the boat having sank and me allways up to my armpits in something Deep Down N Dirty, or Down Deep n Dirty ???? Previously i believe it may of been called Bagpuss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Angelwood (its not that bad a name eh )
