  1. So sorry, please accept my condolences Dave. I will raise a glass and think of you both on the eighth. Val
  2. As above - Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Littleborough, Todmorden - We moored on the towpath opposite the sanitary station because it was full with no problems. The wharf with the pub is good, can't remember the name. We have moored overnight above Tuel Lock to do shopping with no problems.
  3. We have moored overnight at the sanitary station and a couple of years before that on the tow path side. I now realise why we got the whole of the towpaths to ourselves! We had no problems at all, the boat was not left unattended. Val
  4. We have used Boatmail for several years and it works well for us. Big plus is the ordinary address which is acceptable to banks and DVLA and TV licencing. We have found current driving licence pretty much essential for ID purposes, for example a new passport. Cut down paper mail as much as poss e.g. Paperless banking. I do not join things that send paper thro the post as much as is possible.
  5. So sorry to hear this Jaq. Deepest sympathy. Val
  6. We have covered most of the system taking five years to do it continuously cruising. A few bits we have not done, we are doing the Droitwich next year for example. We are now returning to canals and rivers we really enjoyed and want to see again. Val
  7. I would like to see a post from Daniel answering the allegations that have been made against the moderators on this forum. To my knowledge that has not been done in a formal way. They are serious allegations with potential consequences for me in the way I view this forum. Val
  8. I'm not sure about that Mike. I'm wary because I don't think that I have been asked about the above and don't want to commit to something I have not thought about in the detail you have. For example rather than it being agreed that CA is reinstated I would like a discussion first about whether it is moderated or not. I would also need to read up on the Forum Rules and Guidelines. And, I think, allow more time for the site owner and crew to respond to the allegations that have been made before anything else is put forward. Val
  9. Well! I think many boats have, as ours is a Liverpool Boat cruiser stern and has the water filling point on the well deck. Val
  10. Excellent James! James is referring to Pete Wakenham, who appears to have the qualities of the Scarlet Pimpernel ? Advise you to go to London Boater's page on FB. There is info on local facilities pinned to the top of the page. Val

  12. Good to see you there Pluto with a great turnout. Val and Peter
  13. Congratulations on winning the Heritage and Outstanding Contribution Awards. Well deserved by all involved. Val
  14. Is the bottom drawer like this? If so it will open. CORRECTION!!! So sorry, the door with the glass has to be OPEN, that is the closing mechanism has to be disengaged. So open the door and then turn the bottom handle from horizontal to vertical anticlockwise and the drawer will drop down. The door with the glass won't shut until the bottom drawer is shut. Val
  15. We have an Aarow Becton Bunny (9 yrs old) and the bottom drops down completely to remove ash pan. It won't open if the main door is open. Val
  16. As above^. Ours is nearly ten years old now, never had any problems with it. We do a lot of home cooking tho, depends on your usage I suppose. Val

  18. If you are on your own just work one side. One paddle, one gate and set next lock in advance, one paddle up. Works for us. Hope the weather is good! I think we have only ever done Hatton once in fine weather. Val
  19. I am accustomed to being ushered into wide locks first, usually by male steerers. Of course it is easier to go into the lock last! Val
  20. We use Antenna Aligner, always seems to work. Recommended by someone on the Forum a while ago. Val
  21. We enjoyed the Basingstoke. The staff work really hard to keep the canal open and are pleasant and helpful. Val
  22. We use mains powered Humax box with high gain aerial on a pole which works well enough for us. It is rare not to get all main channels each time we move. Val
  23. When buying our last CO and smoke alarm it appeared to me that integral batteries were pretty much standard now. We bought an optical smoke alarm that rarely false alarms and the CO alarm never does. Val
