so you learned that you need the centre rope untangled & running to the back where you can grab it when you need it. You'll soon get used to moving about on your own. Just do things at your own pace & try & think ahead. Maybe not if she opened the paddles to fast for you. After a bit of a scary experience in Stoke top lock I'm very cautious about accepting help from other boaters in locks & will often specifically say not to open the paddles too fast.

Welcome. Yes, it's not difficult to manage locks solo, just takes a bit longer. I try to have a think through what i need to do before starting (which side is the ladder on etc) those electric swing bridges on the other hand...

I have a 12v pure dab stereo radio and connect the MP3 player to the line-in socket. Sounds great I dont think you need very powerful speakers in a small space. mp3 gets recharged via computer when it's on. In my opinion; dont but an ipod (or anything else i). If i were you I'd go for the 'blind eye' mooring option. But that's cos I'm lazy.
