  1. Thanks for your replies. I think i can get the porthole surround off. Any ideas on what to do with the patches; can i rub them down & treat with something (what?) and re-varnish?
  2. There are a couple of patches on my walls where the surface coating has gone (due to condensation i think) and the wood is darker. See pic How do i fix this? I believe the wood is maple if that makes a difference thanks in advance
  3. ooh, another incomprehensible thread from smelly. can i suggest fewer pies maybe
  4. No, it isn't. There's no such thing as a 'social enterprise model'. Social enterprises are businesses driven by a social or environmental purpose. They can be companies, unincorporated organisations etc. 'Social Enterprise' is just a description, not a legal definition. A charity does have a legal definition in that it is an organisation that has charitable status and is regulated by the charity commission. Charities ARE social enterprises.
  5. lol! I've had this (when i was moored). I have the same engine as you op, there's an emergency engine stop switch. It's on the side sort of under the fuel filter near the lift pump. actually i didnt know which was which so i did em both which worked. I'd been tracing wires earlier so i thought i'd disconnected the stop switch somehow, it wasn't till i went to turn the key back that i realised it was on 'off'. my key positions dont line up anyway
  6. it's looking very promising. I'll be done with work & south of Hack Green by November, if you pm me i'll come assist where required if i'm around

    Fenders...

Can i have your old ones then? they look ok to me. I've seen boats selling them or you could visit a swindlers maybe
  8. a race against time, how exciting let me know if you want someone to wield a windlass in the november rain...
  9. I'm in, i shall be wintering in Audlem in any case. btw if your coming from the north 8 Nov is your deadline* for Hack Green & Nantwich stoppages * still subject to change
  10. pretty much email received today:
  11. Well I've just filled up after 99.6 hours and managed to squeeze in 89 litres so that's only .89 litres per hour for me.
  12. I think luctor's comments were sarcastically aimed at WJM You are quite right to do things your way. If it's safe and works then it's fine - bollox to the people telling you how it 'should' be done. but wont you get dust & leaves stuck to the paint in this wind...
  13. I think it was between the bottom 2. Indeed, that is what i did, except i didn't have to go back and shut the gate cos i asked the hire boat behind me to do it for me. They didn't catch me up either.
  14. I agree. Good for you BSP, I liked single handing up the Shroppie locks, it's easy to get into a good rhythm, I even step over the half gate now. I use a rope round the bollard too. Watch ahead for the bollards at Tyrley. When i came up a couple of weeks ago there was nowhere to tie the boat at the approach to the 2nd (I think) lock. The BW contractors who were clearing the area may have replaced them tho. perhaps I'm pootling north now so i'll look out for the boat with the tiger heading the other way
  15. Are you nr Br8 homer? I remember that boat name from the last couple of days but cant remember why now
  16. ^ this please
  17. I don't see any need for any kind of criticism of other peoples use of English - you apparently do. OP with only 7 posts to their name asks a question and the 1st response they get is from ubiquitous bully boy criticising their English. Not very welcoming is it? You didn't attempt to answer the question did you? So why did you bother posting at all? Did a wasp crawl up your bum this morning?
  18. You're being an arsehole Dave. A stupid one as well, if you're going to get picky about a posters use of English perhaps you should make sure you use the language correctly yourself. "Tricky one." is not a proper sentence. This is good advice. Why not look at second hand boats? I think it's difficult to know what your needs are until you've lived on a boat. You can always sell & but a new one later on when you know exactly what you want. Whether 40' is big enough to live on depends on the amount of stuff you have. I find that 45' is fine for me.
  19. I had a grand time, it was good to meet everyone. special thanks to all the caterers and pink vodka suppliers. The goatshed cider was rather nice as well. yeah, I was expecting you to be there. Nice pic! cos they know that the cool people sleep in their vehicles innit
  20. I like to keep my options open. is it usually compulsory? I am rubbish at drinking and i'll be the one checking the coolant level in the crappy green citreon
  21. I shall probably be in the car park too (if i decide to drink)
  22. great idea. I may start doing it myself. I wonder what sort of hat would be suitable for "still stuck in chuffing London miles away from the boat"
  23. likewise. I will wear my sailor outfit
